desperately seeking a wind turbine

Good afternoon. I have been trying to find out about buying a domestic size wind turbine for my home, haven't had much luck. Anyone out there know of any suppliers or organisations who provide info/ advice/ grants turbines or about sustainable energy ?????

I don't know about sourcing one but you'll probably need to check about planning permission if you do decide to get one (assuming you're in the UK)

Yes you're right, planning permission is required. however, the sort of turbine I'm after is small, you can put them on your roof and they don't make a noise. I think planning should be ok, particularly as local governments have to be seen to promote sustainable energy. You never know though and I would check this before shelling out the money

Have you been in contact with the Centre for Alternative Technology http://www.cat.org.uk/ ?
Not only do they publish books about domestic sized wind turbines, they offer courses on how to build your own wind turbine.

Have you taken out a subscription to the RSPB to compensate for any birds that might get shredded by it.

I'm not sure it'll be big enough to shred birds, that's really not the idea. The way I see it is that if we don’t look at more sustainable forms of energy now, then there will be no habitable earth left for the birds or humans.
Thanks for the useful sugestions , I rather fancy a course in building my own.

These guys are good. I've only dealt with them on industrial-scale stuff, but friends rate their domestic generation advice too. You could give them a call, and ask for a list of suppliers :
