A word of explanation for those who were not in the UK glued to a TV last night at 19:00...
The single most important TV event of my lifetime (with the possible exception of the moon landings, but I was three weeks old so I didn't appreciate that), the revival of the BBC's most successful property. Five minutes or so in, there's a moment of quiet suspense as Rose moves tentatively through a cellar, a cellar we know to be crawling with Autons.
And then suddenly the screeching voice of that f**king Irish queen loudly interrupts proceedings. "Oh, am I still on?" Yes, Norton, you f**king are, now SHUT UP!!!
I realise it was a technical fault, a hang over from whatever tedious s**te Norton was hosting immediately before "Who", but it was UNFORGIVEABLE. Someone really should be sacked.
Oh, and just before next week's show the BBC should show its remorse and apologise to the outraged fans by telling Norton off live on prime-time TV. There'd be no chance of the bastard interrupting next week's episode then, eh, fans?
...Or am I taking this too seriously...?
H.

No.
As she crawled through the celler I heard a round of applause, so I was waiting for the 'suprise party' her friends had set up for her. Then I heard Mr Norton's voice chit chatting and I was cross as well as I realised he was still doing the fandango. Totally ruined the suspense for my son, who was curled up (not quite behind the sofa) but in a small ball next to me on the sofa.

Aha, I thought it sounded like him. It was weird but I decided at the time that it was just weird alien ambience.

We thought it was a problem with our surround sound, it happens sometimes if we forget to turn the volume down on the telly. It really spoiled the suspense as we were frantically looking for the TV control to sort the sound out
Apart from that, loved it completely!

*raises hand*
Someone at the BBC needs to sack that (he was already annoying me by walking through London to the tune of "Stayin' Alive" (woman's man he ain't) and I only sat through the dancing because I daren't change sides in case I missed ONE BIT of Doctor Who.
Heard Graham Norton's voice and I looked at Andrew on the compter and asked him if he heard that. "Heard what?" (well, he was busy on Battle X)
Then I heard the round of applause as Rose walked into that scary basement, and I thought, it must be her birthday
*mystified*
Heard Norton's voice again and TURN OFF YOUR EFFING MIKE!!!!!!!!!
Someone pulled the plug, and I settled back to watch my treasure.
7.30 the phone rang - Andrew went to answer it and had a 10-minute conversation with my older son, who wants to come for dinner today.
I think I'll emigrate, with my tv.

I heard the applause and thought it was part of the plot, I did think it was weird and made no sense to the plot
But apart from what he did to doctor who he should be garrotted for being a complete and utter

I've put in an official complaint.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints
I've asked them to replay episode one in place of G.Norton next week.
If enough of us complain - it might just happen.

Never mind the apology ~ that would mean we'd have to hear that annoying little voice again.Yuck
Just stick him on a desert island and fill all his timeslots with sci-fi.

Some interesting comments about automation on the BBC and whether that could of caused the problems plus Callaghans death plus the fact that BBC Scotland broadcast the programme slightly early.

When the newsflash came on I thought they were gonna say the pope had clocked off.

I knew Jim Callahan had died about an hour before the news flash, it was all over the radio
And if we get Graham Norton to apologise he might realise he's NOT the most important thing on TV

It's hardly his fault - he's not responsible for technical stuff! He's just the bloke they pay to do the talking. The person they pay to sort out mikes needs a kick up the pants though.
