If the world does end, I hope some watching alien civilisation comes along and erects a huge sign at the event horizon of the new black hole which says -

I can't die if the world did end...; I've still not utterly found evidence to support the idea that I'm alive or this 'world' is real in the first place'

Apparently an uncontrollable process might start tomorrow, but beginning from the sub-molecular level, it would take four years to build to earth-shattering status.
Which leads us to 2012, the date in the Mayan calendar which is predicted by them as the End of the World...
