Agreed, I prefer limited series and one shots form the main continuity. I am never going to have time to catch up on everything.
Smallville is good fun mind.

Agreed, when I first got into comics I asked what had started recently and began with those. I would love to get into Spiderman and Batman etc, but I just can't afford the back catalogue...

The latest thing I've been working through is "Danger Girl", an online series. Basically a female James Bond / Lara Croft hybrid, with Charlies Angels mixed in. Plots etc are about as formula as it gets, but it's done well, and I wasn't too disappointed at having to pay for the online content.

Hi all
FB - the comic shop 'round the back (by where the big Mastershoe used to be, opposite the Spectrum building as was and handily next door the the York Cafe. I can recommend their food and there's usually a member of staff outside handing out vouchers for free cuppas) is called Excelsior Comics and they have a facebook group page. they do weekly gaming evenings and comic sales etc so might be worth joining the FB group if you're interested.
As for Scott Pilgrim Vs the world. Hm. Sorry. Didn't really like it as much as I had hoped I would. Kick Ass was better. And Kick Ass while a good film didn't go onto my 'must see again' list. I was disappointed cos I was REALLY looking forward to it and liked the trailer. Unfortunately the trailer was pretty much all the great bits. Perhaps being only semi-geek I missed something in translation? I dont think so though. I just found it more of a 'hmp' and a half smile laugher rather than a HA HA HA laugher and the plot was thinner than Ulrika.

If it pulls you along with it, who cares if you're skating on thin ice, right?

Just started reading the J. Michael Straczynski Superman Reboot "Superman: Earth One" (you know the one where Supes is a moody teenager wearing a hoody).
Now the brackets bit meant I had decided in advance I wasn't going to like it had had decided to give it a miss. However as it happens got hold of a copy and it is really well done. And an interesting take on the superman Mythos.
Fans of supes should check it out!

I just went and read Earth One. It has nothing on Mark Waid´s origin story.

Which one was Mark Waid's? I dont think I have read it.
I guess it is all about expectations, mine re Earth One were about as low as they could be. So I really enjoyed it having been pleasantly suprised.

I've recently finished Transmetropolitan (awesome) and read Maus (slightly disappointing, but then my expectations were sky-high). Next time I have some money spare (which may be a long time, depending on how things turn out) I may get the last couple of volumes of Lucifer, as I'm nearly done with it. It's nice to be able to actually finish off some of these long series.

That is always bittersweet mind. I was particularly gutted when I got to the end of Preacher and Sandman. It was great but in a sense sad that I owuldn't ever get to read stuff about those characters for the first time again.
Reading Sin City: A Dame to Kil for ATM. Is ace, and I am utterly amazed at how much they got Micky Rourke to actually look just like Marv in the movie version.

To be fair, there are a few Sandman one-offs and spin-offs if you're feeling really deprived. Apart from Lucifer, I've quite recently read "The Dream Hunters", which Neil Gaiman made with Yoshitaka Amano (of Final Fantasy fame, among other things).

Never read any of them before but I have recently got hold of the whole of Hellblazer right from the start.
Got up to the end of the "Family Man" arc and I must say I am really, really impressed. it is quite tremendously good stuff. Love it!

All of it?! There are literally dozens of them, and I think it may still be ongoing! I've got up to Damnation's Flame (5th volume in release order, I think), but I have a friend who really has stuck with it all the way.

Yeah so working my way methodically through I think I will take a short break form it to try something else for a bit as i dont want to get bored.

Yeah, my friend says there are now something like 30 volumes of trades, not comprehensive and some not in order, confusingly. He has 23 or 24 volumes, a feat I can only one day hope to surpass.

Right so just finished all of "Knightfall" Batman saga (where Bane, the villain of the forthcoming Nolan Batman film is introduced) and I must say I am very interested to see what Nolan does with it. Yaya!
