war...why?

I did see a reference on here somewhere to a report that referred to the combat activities in Iraq as a civil war.
I still want them to go back to calling it the war against terror.

We live in the Information Age and that in turn has levered the reach and effectiveness of advertising. Every angle that can be used to sell you something is used. You're too fat, to old, wrong car, wrong pot noodle, ad nauseum. The only thing the advertising gorilla can't take away is death itself. We're all going to die. But now we don't approach it with calm and fortitude because we have been conditioned to go out and buy something to take it away. If you don't have the money there's something lacking in you. The advertisning man said so. If there isn't a pill to cure it it's somebody's fault.
Knowledge is power and over the ages controlling the dissemination of knowledge has been used to control the masses. It's getting harder nowadays what with the Internet and everything. Witness the unprecedented detail of the Hutton report and how tightly controlled the news from Iraq is. As access to the Internet grows, look at China, politicians will find it more difficult to restrict the truth unpalatable or not. Maybe then we will start voting in politicians who are not self seeking and tell the truth.
Maybe then mankind, or the bit of mankind that calls itself the first world, will begin to pursue wisdom and not the fast buck. Maybe we will regain some of our dignity. There are no pockets in a shroud. This morning I heard Eva Cassidy singing Imagine......

Good call Ictoan, I'm getting pretty fed up of my fellow liberals calling for support for every opportunist psychopath on the market. Al Zaqawi should be in Broadmoor - he is just evil.
