What a shame
A great man, who will be greatly missed.
Not least by me, my saturday mornings will never be the same again

A genuine good guy. The world's a little worse off now. Who will I now shout at on Saturday mornings. Tara lah. Take care.

Shock.
I just heard about this a few minutes ago. I can't believe that he is gone.
It's just not right.

You can call me TC Posted Oct 26, 2004
I, too, am devastated. He broadcast on Radio London on Sunday afternoons and when Radio One started up he just carried on doing exactly the same thing - true to himself and so unique. I am sure I'm not the only one who hung on to his every word.
Who on earth can take over what he was doing?
This will change the world. My thoughts are with his wife and colleagues who will be missing him even more than his public.

As one person says: "Never imagined I'd see the day we'd have to live in a world without him. I simply can't believe I won't ever hear that voice again, saying "I've just got this demo tape from a band calling themselves Heavy Plank Consortium" or some such, after which he would play you something new and different and beautiful and exciting. "

Teenage kicks against the pricks.
Oh dear...
One of the things which moved me immensely was when he spoke once about a time when he thought his wife, Shiela was dying. His description of overwhelming shock and disbelief was so recognisable. His marriage has remained for me a proof that lifelong partnerships are possible.
Apres nous, le deluge.

I am Donald Sutherland Posted Oct 26, 2004
Yes, a sad loss. Although not a great fan of modern pop, John Peel always had something sensible to say. He was a man you could listen to with ease because as he always came over as someone who knew what he was talking about.
BTW
Sic transit gloria mundi
Thus passes the glory of the World.
Its a phrase used by the Cardinals in Rome when a new Pope is elected.

Whilst trying to block out the bloody little brat of a screaming kid on the bus home, I tune into Johnny Walker and hear the news. I'll be honest - I had a lump in my throat
So long John, you'll be very sadly missed

Terribly sad news. I still can't get my head around the fact that there's going to be no more John Peel Show, no more Peel Sessions, no more Festive Fifty....

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted Oct 26, 2004
Agreed, it just doesn't seem possible that he'l no longer be a part of our lives, as someone who doesn't watch TV more than a couple of films a week, or less, the radio is my entertainment, and he was such a large part of that

Like millions of others, my musical knowledge wouldn't be half as extensive if it wasn't for Peely.

Hear hear - I can think of dozens and dozens of bands that have meant a great deal to me that I just wouldn't have heard of if not for Peelie.
A great shame.
