The fifty most influential UK TV programmes, apparently:

What do we think? (and sorry I can't link properly)

Well, at least yours works, mine didn't!

Hmm, interesting list, though I can't for the life of me see why they listed Big Brother, Driving School and Pop Idol as influential... as far as I can see, one influenced all the others!

Why “Changing Rooms” after all? smiley - erm There so many shows like this on air, and as far as I remember “House Invaders” was the first one, wasn’t it?

*Tiptoes shamefacedly back following the link debacle smiley - blush*

There do seem to be a few too many 'reality' shows. And I wonder how they chose the drama ones - everyone probably thinks their favourite should be in the list (ie Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Series 1 & 3).

Doctor Who made it though. And I expected Blue Peter to be there.

It's funny, it's tricky to think of what one would put in such a list but very easy to criticise an existing one!

Successfully linked, read it ... smiley - yawn bored already.

Quite right, Jules, far too easy to criticise the actual contents of these lists - but my question would be why they need *another* one? Every weekend of the last ten years seems to have had some kind of 'Top 100' show and they were enormous fun at first, but the exercise is getting increasingly tedious. The Big Read, Nation's Favourite Sitcom, Best Fifty TV Scenes with a Tortoise in them, Stuart Maconie and Jamie Theakston hauled out *again* to tell you why they loved Thunderbirds so much ... anyone else getting the tiniest suspicion that British TV is in danger of disappearing up its own fundament? smiley - biggrin

No reasons given, no naming of the people who chose it, no discussion: might as well just pick fifty programmes off the top of your head. And since when were televion programmes (or books, or music) supposed to be in competition anyway?

I am Donald Sutherland

I am glad to see that World at War made the list. That is series that should be repeated every five years for as long as television exists.
