where would you go? I've just been watching a film about someone who wanted to escape, so it got me thinking...

I'd pack a suitcase, go to the airport and eeny meeny miny moe a destination. Then see where ever i land
I suppose suitcases get to escape a lot too

I would go to Minehead, on the Somerset coast, very nice there and its got broadband!

i would got to some cities i like a lot:
edinburgh, glasgow, paris, new orleans.
maybe i would fly to nevada, drive on the NV 375, and sleep in a sleepingback near Area 51 looking for some flyning extraterrestrial things

Just thought of something....what is the average age for British kids to get a passport? Is it something that's common, with Europe just a boat ride or Chunnel tunnel away?

I'm American...so the question doesn't apply to me, but I'll answer anyway...I first traveled to another country when I was 5...

I first travelled abroad when i was about 7 ish

But i was on my moms passport, i didn't get my own til i was 16.

Me and my friend are going to take her baby boy on holiday this year though, he'll be about 8 months old when he get s his passport

french kids travel on their parents' passports; there's a page for their photos & vital statistics in the back. mine also have their own US passports though, since they're not allowed to enter the US on any other type of passport.

the british don't need a passport to go to tuscany! even a driver's license will do (i don't believe the british have national id cards). the french can travel throughout europe on an EXPIRED id card. but the wildest case: at the airport recently for a business trip to germany, i found i had the wrong wallet hence no passport. i travelled to düsseldorf & back with a california driver's license expired since 1991!

to go to the states is another matter though! a visa for my french wife takes 2 trips to paris for both of us (there's a consulate here in town but their authorization to process paperwork is limited to smiling nicely), fees of 335 + 180 USD, plus a medical visit to a doctor who only works for the US embassy (and is not recognized by french social security)... total cost around $700 plus the train fares (figure another 700 bucks)... even calling the embassy on the phone costs money, about $20 on your credit card payable to unca sam... welcome to the USA!!

St Lucia in the Windward Isles, we had a wonderful week there in March.

They drive on the proper side of the road, use UK 3 pin plugs and the tap water is safe to drink.

They also have highspeed internet access

As a hobby I could look after all the feral there, the lady who used to look after them died last year.
