Survey: Does your office photocopier work properly?
The Groob Started conversation Apr 7, 2004
The photocopier in my office doesn't work properly. If I didn't know better I'd swear it's programmed to deliberately annoy.
The strange thing is, everyone I have spoken to so far has said that THEIR office photocopier doesn't work properly either.
So the question is: does your office photocopier work properly?

No! It breaks down at crucial moments, and worse, given that it now prints, scans, makes tea and quite possibly faxes as well, we no longer have any back up printers, scanners etc.
In other words, when it's ed, we're ed.

Works fine, the occasional paperjam but that is easily sorted. The print function is a dream for large print jobs. Then again it is part of my job to make sure it can keep printing On another note I try to avoid all-in-one machines for that reason, and they are never as good as dedicated machines. Until later....

Does it work!
Every 2 minutes "Please reset the paper tray"
It uses very technical languafge too, like "Please remove paper from the 'finisher upper tray'"

Mine is fine, although we did have the engineer out last week as it was thought the display screen was French Connectioned. It turned out someone had accidently turned up the contrast, so the display couldn't be read. Hey Ho!!!!

Eer, that's not very paperless, is it?
Mine refuses to recongise A3 paper for copying, insists it's B2 (who uses B2 paper?), then sulks becuase it's got no B2 paper to copy on to.

We were trying to have a paperless office because the boss demanded it, then the boss said he needed paper for something

I only print things out when they are too long to read on the screen. It was a joke really. :P

Perfectly and I can print to it, which costs a fraction of the per sheet of printing to one of the office lasers.
I think the trick is that ours is leased. Photocopiers that someone else owns work much better.

I used to work for a photocpying leasing company. All I can say is never sign on the dotted line if there are still blank bits on the piece of paper. Yes, this fab new machine might well be exactly the same cost per 'payment' as your old crappy one, but you'll be making payments about four times as frequently once we've ticked this box after we've left your office.

Ah you see I do purchase requests for 20 odd laser printers and someone else worries about the photocopier lease
A nice S.E.P. feild

The one at my old place of work was always breaking down - the multiple copiers we have at my current place run fine, thankyou.

Mine is fine, it faxes, e-mails, I can print to it from my desk, although I often go up to see it so that I can talk to other people. Sometimes it jams but it tells you where the jam is so you can unjam it. Occasionally it messes up but if you switch it off and on again it quite often works.

ours is temperamental . . . it makes the paper hot and curly, then refuses to use it becuase it doesn't like curly edges . . .
i like the print straight to copier thing though, its works really well - i was really sceptical when the nice lease man was trying to sell it to me!
but the lease company is rubbish, I mean really rubbish, I don't think their accounts department speaks to any of the other bits - I have had three completely contradictory conversations with people there - perhaps they all have different versions of our contract with different boxes ticked, hmmmmm

ours randomly chooses to print on letter and then self destructs. in fact I think its flashing at the moment

We used to have one which broke down every other week. Then, quite without warning, a new and far more expensive one appeared: very flash, could do all sorts of clever new-fangled things, made the tea etc. This one breaks down on an almost daily basis.
Moreover, the guy who is supposed to come and fix it is so overburdened with broken-down photocopiers that it's often left up to us to have a go ourselves. Many's the time I've found myself up to my shoulder in some sort of hatch marked 'Live Electrics - do not touch' trying to sort out a paper jam that doesn't exist.

We have 3 black and white copiers and two colour copiers. Two of the black and white copiers are high spec ones that can do all kind of clever stuff, as is one of the colour ones. The other two are rather more basic. They're all poo. They jam all the time, refuse to collate, refuse to staple, often refuse to copy at all, and just plain break down. Like I said, poo, very poo indeed.
Fortunately the printer nearest my desk is a nice new superfast one that actually prints faster than the copier can copy, and does so reasonably reliably, so if I want multiple copies I print multiple copies.
Why are photocopiers so unreliable? In my previous job we had just one, but it was always getting replaced, because it was poo, with a new (different) one that was always just as poo.

I'm in charge of eleven (yes, eleven, busy Library, busy busy paper-wasting students) photocopiers and not ONE of them can go a day without jamming or pretending they've run out of toner (but I changed the bottle this morning!) or thinking something mysterious has gone wrong with their bowels. B****y things. I hate them I hate them I hate them.
One got utterly fouled up today and took me 40 minutes to disembowel because some feckless half-wit had put her lecture notes down on the manual feed tray and of course the photocopier had tried to suck them in and print on them and came a-cropper because they were stapled together. I'm very surprised I didn't assault the silly moo with the nearest chair.
