Bubble wrap - inside or out?
Teuchter Started conversation Feb 19, 2007
Is there a correct way to use bubble-wrap polythene?
Does it afford better protection with the bubbles on the inside or the outside?
Mind you, it's academic now as far as I'm concerned; all the stuff's been packed.

Well, you can't pop it as easily with the bubbles on the inside...

That's what I reckoned.
With the bubbles on the outside, any weight is going to put pressure on a small number of bubbles, possibly even just one bubble.
With the bubbles on the inside, the load is spread more easily across a larger number of bubbles.
At least - that's my theory; a sort of fakir and bed-of-nails scenario.
But I could be completely wrong.

Good use fo logic. I was just thinking that you want to be able to pop the bubbles. Isn't that what bubble-wrap is for?

Thanks to purchasing a telly, amplifier, speakers and a new PC over the last few months I am currently the proud owner of three different grades of bubblewrap.
Does anybody else deliberately avoid throwing bubblewrap away just because it's so poppable?

I bubble wrap... I was just given a really large sheet of bubble wrap by my lodger yesterday when I got back from the beer festavil, which he'd saved for me (came with his new graphics/video card) tis fantastic for popping though I managed to pop an awful lot of it last night and I'm now worried about running out

One of the telesales I worked in many years ago used to have rolls of the stuff. Six foot high and the width of a tree trunk! Oh the fun we had hugging that!

Does anyone actually throw it away _before_ all the bubbles have been popped?

Never! I even collect it from the fruit and veg aisle in Asdus When there are only a few left, does anyone else wring it (like washing)?

Sometimes. The short-term pleasure is good, but I also like to prolong it by sometimes going through it systematically and popping each individually.
The tone of this is becoming a wee bit worrying.

Isn't it annoying when you go to pop a bubble but the air inside just slips away to the adjoining bubbles, thus denying the satisfying pop?

*shakes head, tuts a bit .....
..... then finds some left over bits to pop.

Out of interest, how many of us have genuinely popped during this conversation?
I have, but I've a small room so the BW is never far away.

I have some real advice on using bubble-wrap. Avoid using it on surfaces which might become marked by it. Highly polished surfaces need tissue paper instead.
