Bad and confusing adverts!

Nice try, King Bomba, but it doesn't seem to work that way. The adverts I've seen all feature women who are eating the product so they can lose weight, not to keep their weight down. Mind you, I wouldn't buy any of the products anyway. I believe that the key to losing weight and keeping it off is to teach yourself to eat healthily and get a reasonable amount of exercise. And you can do that without going for 'diet' foods - in fact, it's probably best if you do!

Well you mentioned Special K - there's a big difference between that and something like Slim Fast. It isn't really a diet food - unless anything with less sugar than Sugar Puffs is diet.

I was thinking more in terms of ready meals by Weight Watchers, or the M & S ones that were advertised a couple of years ago. In fairness to SlimFast, they did use 'before' and 'after' pictures of people who had used their product. However, I've never seen anybody plump in a Weight Watchers ad, be it for their ready meals or for their slimming clubs.

well I think I've died and gone to heavan on the crap advert front now that Freeview show Men and Motors.
Every morning now are the wonderfully bad infomercials - 15 minute (plus) long sales pitches for wonderful products, that are so basd they are hilarious (to my warped sense of humour that is)
There are several featuring a dark haired lass who seems atonished by everything, she probably even is amazed each day when the sun comes out. She's amazed at a vacuum cleaner sucking up dust in the same way we'd be amazed by actually creating gold from lead using household chemicals.
Plus the feasture list, yesterday's all in one trolly, step ladder thing had "super tough wheels that can cope with concrete, asphalt and even grass!" gosh thank god they can cope with grass, tough stuff that, I drove on some in the car the other day and all tyres were shredded!
Anyway, if you are sad or want a laugh check out M&M in the morning!

Have we covered the KFC zinger salad ad yet?
It's worth a thread all to itself, but here's my take on it: I really (don't) want to run out to buy a salad that makes me look like a (fat) lass in a call centre stuffing my mouth full and then talking...
Out of all the fast food joints, I actually like KFC, but this ad is enough to make me write to them and complain strongly. I read (in the Guardian I believe) that the ASA have received over 1,000 complaints about this ad within 2 weeks. Bartle Bogle Hegerty (sp?) say it's all a bit of fun...

I've moaned about the KFC singing adverts before. It all smacks of some advertising bod trying too hard to be funny.

The adverts are on repeatedly at peak times so someone somewhere is raking it in.
*longing for days when phones went 'ring ring'*

The Heineken ad with Ray Liotta.
not necessarily bad or confusing - a little irritating perhaps
I have another question though:
"We now brew our beer in Sideways flasks. Not Upright! Sideways."
What difference will that make?

Apparently over 400 people have officially complained about the frog advert and how it's driving them nuts!

It is with a heavy heart that I report that crazy frog has been remixed into AxelF and this is being released as a single... *shakes head*

There's a somewhat odd advert out at the moment with Maria Sharapova for a deodorant. She says 'it helps you keep cool on Wimbledon Centre Court' or words to that effect. Considering that her last appearance at Wimbledon Centre Court was July 2004 then she can't have used the product then, no?
She also mumbles 'Wimbledon Centre Court'. I *think* that's what she says but I wouldn't be surprised if Wimbledon didn't give her permission to do the ad (I know they have stringent rules about advertising) so she gets around that by mumbling.

This could have gone in Petty Hates but something I particularly hate about adverts is the way that people react to eccentricity or any 'unconventional' behaviour. They always give disapproving or 'they're a loony' looks. Personally if I see someone behaving strangely I think 'great! an individual' but I suppose in advert world anyone not confirming with the herd is a weirdo.

I usually take the same view as you do... but I tend to avoid the Walking-Along-Shouters and the I-Make-Odd-Noises-and-Frighten-Children types (i.e. the ones who really *are* loony)

*feels sure Mr Dreadful will agree that in fact you don't get odd or snooty looks if acting a little 'eccentric' - even if dressed as a manky pirate and accompanied by a flapper, wizard, librarian and assorted others*

That's the wierdest thing, Kelli, when wandering around stonehenge dressed as a pirate nobody bats an eyelid... when walking around down in black jeans and a Carcass t-shirt I'm suddenly a freak who *has* to be stared at.

Probably doesn't help though that he aforementioned t-shirt proudly declares that "I Reek of Putrefaction"
