Are you serious about mapping? Two years ago I asked the Ordnance Survey for some details. All I wanted was a bench mark location.
They told me that for a fee they could give me the exact height above sea level and co-orinates of any location.
How? By satellite of course. GPS in action. Not saying Mars has the same facility, for an ET landing it has to be better, plus or minus 5% I would say. Just who do they think they are kidding?
No it's a complete shambles.

On the mapping thing - OS are great on the 30% of the Earth above water.
But there's 70% of the planet where our knowledge is sketchy, at best.
