Has anyone got one of those dance mat things that you plug into the Playstation (they do them for TV too, are they better or worse?)? I want to buy one for Christmas for myself and my son, but looking at them in the shops today they don't seem able to do very much. Are they worth getting? I want to boogie on down to hits from the 70s onwards, and I haven't been able to find a 'game' a full playlist yet. J's more likely to want to play games or use more modern music. There just doesn't seem that much out there for them.
Anyone know the best one to get, and/or if you can use them with your own music cds?

I've got the PS one - it's quite fun, my daughter and I enjoy having the odd session on it.
No you cant use your own CDs on it, and it's more like a game that a dance - you just stamp on the appropriate arrows as directed. (There was a thread about them recently - I'll dig it out for you)
Only comment I'd add is that they're a bit big and awkward to store - depends how much mess you're prepared to put up with

Thanks Luckystar. I've seen the arcade versions, and it does look fun. I just need to find one that plays music I like in that case.
Mess? I can live with mess.

Yes they're cheap knockoffs that can only play three built in games (a "dance" game, a pinball game and a variant of tetris )
Think they've got them in the gadgetshop, as well as a few other places.

I've seen them in Asda and the Gadget Shop. I'm sure they'll be all over the place come Christmas time...

CC - have copied your questions from the 'DDR' thread to save duplicating threads.
"This DDR thing confuses me are you able to put your own CD into the PS or is it set music? If it is set music what type of music is it - Clubbing, Old Time, Salsa, Line Dancing?
Does it work on a PS1 or just on PS2?
Does it project you on the screen like the fighting mat?"
Set music.
Mainly pop.
PS2 - however a lot of new versions are being released over Christmas (like for my Xbox - so prolly best to ask in your local video games store.
No.
Think the TV ones are a bit cheaper, but they're not as good as the console versions.

If the PS1 is the version that doesnt play DVDs then you can use the mats on this version too - thats the one that I use.
