I'm not judging.

The difference I think is this. My idea of a good time is that just that I and my mates get smiley - drunk and have a good time, without making others have a bad time.

It comes across that your idea of a good time is to get smiley - drunk and have a good time, and if anybody doesn't like it that's just tough. Now *that* is unfriendly.

With regards to the original post - Laws are there. You know they're there, so if you don't want to get into trouble, don't break them. Simple.

If you don't like the law, get into politics and change it. Simple.

Yes I have got out of my face. But the point is not every time I have a drink and bars abroad shouldn't be held responsible for customers lack of being able to hold it and have the right to repremand.
It's a shame to only ever drinking occasionally but each time getting completely hammered. That's the worst for your health as well - sudden overload.
I love a good drink - you're missng out smiley - alesmiley - stiffdrinksmiley - redwine

I know people are taking McDonalds to court - that's my point. It's stupid.

You know it's going to make you fat. So it's your fault if you eat it. Not McDonalds for selling it.

Alcohol makes you drunk, it's your fault for drinking it, not the barman's fault for selling it.

Would you prefer it if McDonalds and alcohol were banned?

*NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo!* smiley - biggrin

Ban Mcdonalds? Yes! Yes! Yes!

Actually no, then all the riff-raff would have to move into the classier joints, like my favourite loitering spot - Subway smiley - biggrin.

I have to say most of the time 3 or 4 pints, just so I get that slightly sluggish detached feeling, is the nicest level of drunkenness.

The 1 joint feeling is nicer still though.

true enough BBiTM !

"I must say this has become a very unfriendly thread, it seems you all look down ur noses at people who like to drink & have fun outside te realms that you lot would consider being fun!"

Not at all. I don;t think anyone has said that. This is far from an unfriendly thread. Nobody is being unfriendly. We may disagree with you, to varying degrees, but disagreeing with your opinions does not mean we dislike *you*. You have one opinion, I have another (and H has *lots*) that's what makes life interesting!

I think there is a paradigm clash here. Yes, go out, get drunk. Or don't it's up to you. Have fun in any way you like. I won;t stop you, but the second your fun becomes my problem then I will complain about it. No one has the right to have fun, or do anything else, at the expense of others. This is where little things called personal and social responsibility creeps in, as was mentioned earlier on. So if someones idea of fun contravenes local laws then they should not have a problem with getting arrested. Regardless of whether you agree with the law or not, if you break it you can;t expect them to go "well, actually, you have a point. This law is a bit daft, so we will let you off". T'ain't gonna happen.

There are far too many people around now who are 100% up on their personal rights, but completely devoid of any concept of personal responsibility and the rights of others. Which leads to a hedonistic 's*d you' attitude to life. The hedonism, fine. It's the other bit I have problems with.

I really shouldn't need to put this caveat on my posting, but none of the derogatory remarks above are personal, they deal with the population in general.

Well, the person who complained that if they didn`t want people to get drunk they shouldn`t sell them alcohol should be happy now. A new law has been passed in Ireland. Among other things is makes it illegal to be drunk on licensed premises. Which I guess means pubs, bars, and nightclubs. And the police are allowed to go in there in civilian to uphold the law.

Hey Xantic, I posted a thread on this last week if you're interested. It's called "Drinking Laws"
