Well, I am 40something -and I am a shop assistant- you didn't intend to complain about bad mannered shop assistants by any chance ?

People who stand on the left on escalators. They'll be first up against the wall, come the revolution.

>>Shop assistance's bad mannered
<<
Customers who have no patience, do not know what they want, and blame Shop Assistants for everything that goes wrong in life.
I am a sales assistant and I am w*rking today, and have to w*rk most Bank Holidays.
If customers had the same respect for Sales Assistants that they expect Sales Assistants to have for them life would be sweet...
Don't forget, Sales Assistants w*rk 364 days a year, do not finish at 17:30, and also have to shop themselves.... One of those days today ... It hasn't stopped here since 09:00.

I too will return in a decade or so. To perhaps grump about the teens in the nearly-non-existent clothing when the temps are still single-digit. The fools.

latest blood boilers:
1.Being given a 'green' recycling bin so that the binmen only come once every 2 weeks as opposed to every week. Had the green bin several months, barely half full, but the 'normal' bin overflows every week as usual, but now I have twice as much extra rubbish to get rid of myself AND my poll tax has gone up for the pleasure of it all.
2.Having to pay £3.50 a day so the wife can watch tv in hospital + 50p a min to phone her.
3.Automatic doors that let yopu nearly walk into them before begining to open.

loud ill mannered people who seem to think everyone wants to hear what music they are listening to, what they are talking about etc ( especially the ones parked outside my house that i have just glared at!)

Oohhh . . . much more annoying are those people who stop at the top of the escalator and have a long discussion about which direction they are going to go

Old people in supermarkets - look, you have all day every day to go - why go on weekends and hold your discussions in the middle of the aisles.......

that single, small minded, inconsideret, brainless person who decides to park right up against your drivers door forcing you to use the passenger one to get in!

Having been both a shop assistant and a customer I do recognise that both sides can be at fault at times.
<> (EMM)
And this goes for every sector of the service industry - waiters, taxi drivers, hotel staff, etc.
And so, having worked as a shop assistant, cashier, waiter, bartender, hotel staff, I tend to be a very respectful customer - but I also don't feel I should have to put up with bad service. For the most part I am quite happy with the service I get at places but it can really be off-putting to get a surly waiter or shop assistant who treats you like they are doing you some sort of huge favour.
Meanwhile, I also sometimes wonder if maybe they'd just had a bad experience with a very unreasonable customer or are maybe just having a bad day. Awhile ago we were out having tapas and our waiter was so cranky, practically throwing our food at us. And when he asked if we wanted anything else I said - 'Yes, I'd like a smile please!' - and gave him a big one myself. And well, it was like the sun coming out - he broke into the biggest smile and then explained he had been working double shifts and was pretty tired and I commiserated - after that, he looked much more cheerful.
I probably have even more sympathy for supermarket cashiers because they have to sit there all day like a veal and cannot even get up and move around much. And so, knowing from experience what a tedious job that can be, I always make sure to smile and say hello to cashiers and come up with a bit of small talk. It helps.

Az - I've got no problem with people being miserable - it's their right !
What gets me going is when they decide to finish their important conversation with the other assistant, or whoever is on the other end of the mobile, before deigning to look at you as if you've crawled out from under a stone....mind you, I've normally walked out soon after hearing "Yeah,.but no but Shazanne was gurt p****d last night!"

Well, quite. They are being paid to do a job, after all.
Just to say that when one does get good service, letting the person know it's appreciated can go a long way. A few months ago I got exceptional service from a shop assistant at a big department store here - she was wonderful. And so I told her so. And again - her face lit up and I think it kind of made her day. Customers are often very quick to complain but I also think it's a good thing to remember to compliment people on good service received as well.
