...watched a programme they used to enjoy as akid and haven't seen in ages expecting it to be a fun blast from the past only to be burdened with the horrible truth that what they used to spend hours staring at was actually pretty crap?
I'm reminded of this because someone said in another thread they'd watched Transformers for the first time and it actually sucked which depressed me...

I saw the new Transformers cartoon recently and it was a bit pants, in fact it all went up when they started having those races all the time
and that race theme tune
don't even get me started!
When I watched Knightrider for the first time in as many years I was a bit disappointed, but now I enjoy it for the comedy value!

i watched transformers the other morning. at first i thought, oh no what have they done. there was no optimus prime and it was hard to figure out who was the baddies and who was the goodies. then i figured out that it has all gone political. some good guys were friends with some bad guys etc. they seem to have made a classic cartoon quite difficult to understand! an attempt to catapult it to cult status alongside anime and so forth maybe?
i myself could get back into it........if i had the time

But some programmes I watched when I was a kid really are as good (possibly even better) as an adult!
Look at _Danger Mouse_ for an example... I'd never have spotted all the blatant stupidity and ridiculous jokes as a kid, never mind the fact that David Jason played the title role as well as bad guy Count Duckula who would later get his own equally funny spin-off show.
And _Knightmare_ was a work of absolute genius! Remember how amazing the dungeons were rendered? How realistic they looked, even though they were just paintings with cheap chroma-key pasting of people on? There are rumours of a new series, but it'll probably be on some digital channel I don't have .

>Caught my little boy watching Trapdoor very early the other morning..n its still great
Oh wow! Forgot about Trap Door! That used to infuriate me because it was only five mins long and I never wanted it to finish!
On that note, I caught some of the latest series of Thomas the Tank Engine recently, and not only does it not have Ringo Starr narrating any more (what???), it's also only about 3 mins per episode! I'm sure I remember it being longer than that!

*s for loss of characters like Fat Controller and Noddy for the sake of bloody PCness*
Is my memory playing tricks on me or did Bert always used to say "oh bugger" under his breath all the time?
"BERT!!! WHERE'S...MY...SUPPERRRRRRRRR???"
"...oh bugger...coming master!"

They had a bit about Thomas' psychological damage to kids this morning, and were saying that the BBC are going to have to change the plans to have Wes Craven as the new writer!

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Mar 17, 2003
Several years ago I got all excited about 'Lost in Space' being shown for the first time in ages. I used to love it when I was a kid, but after watching the first few episodes, I gave up. It was awful

If I did see one of the old programmes and it were that bad, I would probably delude myself into thinking that the dull bits actually _were_ funny rather than face the horrible truth...

I bought series 1 of Rentaghost recently and found that it was funnier than when I watched it as a kid. We used to tear into the programme the next day at school, even though week in, week out we still tuned in.

The special effects, scenery, etc. is very much worse than I rememebered on early episodes of Star Trek TNG.

For our overseas viewers who have never heard of Rentaghost it sort of like Friends. With dead folk.

Only much, much, much, much, much, much funnier.
