Have you got a stalker on h2g2? Someone who reads all your posts and conversations, and freequently joins your conversations and postings.

Yeah, my sister used to.
I very much hope you're not asking this because you've got a problem with someone on h2g2. If you have, then you should notify the staff, who will take it seriously and endeavour to solve it.

No but I want one! I have had a stalker in real life and it did wonders for the ol'ego, seriously I hope I'm not a stalker. If someone's personal space seems to interest me I will often have a read of there recent conversations and get talking in there ... am I a stalker..

For a while I thought I was being stalked by Saturnine. Then I just realised she had a bad case of logorrhoea.

It's all those 'outsiders' who never register with hootoo, but can still read all the threads and converstions that I occasionally get paranoid about.

A nodding acquaintance, if not a friend, of mine revealed to me a couple of months ago that she had been registered with hootoo for over a year, but mostly lurked and never posted.
How scary's that?

Teuchter Posted Mar 9, 2003
Did she have a reason for not registering?
Is there a fine line between lurking and stalking? When does one become the other?
I always bear in mind that anything I write may 'come back and bite me on the bum later' so try to be careful about what I post.
It would be quite interesting to have some way of identifying the poeple who visit one's page and leave without saying anything.

It certainly would.
I find the best way to track visitors to your PS is with the brand-new tag, in a way that invariably leads to complaints. See the last bullet-point in my 'What I'm Up To' section for an illustration.

I had one. He seems to have mellowed, or he's lurking...

I must admit..I don't like the 'Like this Page Send it to a Friend'..that's on all pages..(I think it's on all)..that makes me feel a bit 'uneasy'..that anyone can just click that..and 'take' my space..or..anyone else's..a good reason for not including personal details..I suppose....

I found out by accident that someone can find my univeristy e mail address, and therefore my full name from my personal space which was a little freaky!

Is that "like this page, send it to a friend " new?
I just noticed it this week.
I did not care for that either, even though it can be done other ways. Making it easier, might encourage use.
I know others could read without you knowing. (ML tag solves that) I have no ML.I am not sure I want to know a bunch of names I do not recognize, that might be unsettling! You do not have to register to read it OR send it to a friend. You register to be able post.
When I was new to computers ( still am)and unable to figure out how to post, I only read. Eventually being inspired to learn, in order to be able to post! I go to other boards and read, but I do not register or post. I knew hootoo was special BECAUSE I have done that

Yes, I have a couple of exes who lurk my journals {that I know of}.
I have now decided not to post anything of a personal {intimate} nature because ... well just because.
to anyone who enjoyed reading my journals but from now on they'll just be rants and complaints and many, many

I try not to be too specific and never divulge my real name in postings or those of the sons or husband.
I feel that as it is such a public place and growing in size I shall be even more cautious in future.

I try to limit the amount of identifying information I give out in any one place. Although it got to a point when I realised I'd posted my names (all in seperate threads) my age, my date of birth and detailed description of my breasts in various places throughout the site - I figured I might as well post a couple of badly taken out of date phtotos.
I have revealed my name, job title, office room and extension number somewhere on the site - but it's buried in someone elses journal so I figured it would be unlikely to come back and bite me in the bum.
My only worry is my boss realising how much time I spend here...but then this place helped me stay sane when I was feeling very very negative towards my job and colleagues - better that I waste an hour or so here a day (which I make up during the extra time I work) than leave them in the lurch
Key: Complain about this post
