Who's tried to give up smoking, whether successfully or not?

The inhalers don't taste of much - there's a kind of a hint of ciggie and they're vaguely minty. I don't know anybody else who's even tried them.

I really notice how my t-shirt stinks the next day after a night in the pub - I'd never noticed it before. Now it has to go straight in the wash.

And I used to have a good hack and cough every morning when I got up - that's gone too - glad to see the back of that.

I automatically worry if I hear so much as one little wheeze now!! I wonder if I am getting a cold or chest infection! It used to be there all the time before! It was after about 10 days that I noticed it had stopped - I was so pleased that I cried.

Oh! and when my sense of smell returned - ohboyohboy! smiley - rose

Yes, the senses returning. I noticed taste more than smell. Fantastic, everything just tasted sort of... more so.

Oddly, I found I had a atring of colds and minor throat infections in the weeks after quitting, and have subsequently heard this is something to do with the nose and throat being a little vulnerable while recovering from all the tar. Is that actually true?

Looking at all the posts since Friday, I realise that there is a lot of support out there as and when I need it smiley - rose.

The weekend actually becaume quite stressful due to the fact that our car broke down, we are house hunting, and the dog came back from the kennels with a cut over his eye lid. I was very good though, I smoked 9 on Saturday and 8 on Sunday.

Today is the test though. To see if I can only have 6 fags during my working day (I usually have 10 or so, but I do have to go outside to smoke).

I have tried the inhalater before. I gave up for a week on holiday about 2 years ago whilst using it. It was going back to work that turned everything uptside down though. smiley - grr

My "due date" is getting closer, but strangely I don't seem to be that bothered about it. Usually by now I start getting palpertations when I start thinking about giving up, but not this time.

Perhaps that is a good omen. Perhaps this time I will manage it.

I do understand about what some of you say about the smell though. I don't smoke in my house (I stand on the doorstep like an idiot puffing away), but I used to work in a pub. When I got home, the first thing I would do would be to put my clothes into the washing machine and go have a shower. I would really stink!!!! smiley - yuk

I also have an uncle who is in the process of giving up. He's done 2 weeks now by using the patches. For some reason he was able to get them from his doctor on prescription.

As for Zyban. My future mother-in-law tried them. She did really well, getting down to 1 a day, but she couldn't seem to give that last one up, even though she felt sick smoking it.

When the tablets stopped, within 2 weeks she was smoking as normal. Perhaps it was the lack of willpower, I don't know.

Thanks to you all for the support smiley - rose, I will commence a new thread about how I am doing on the 3 February (Monday) I should have gone 2 days by then .

I look forward to talking to you all as a NON-SMOKER!!!!! YAY!
