The best thing about the North is the fact that anything said in a loud Northern accent is automatically amusing.

Right, it was me who started off the Liverpool debate, so I may as well give an update as to my intentions...
I was offered, I'm happy to say, all three positions (two in Wazza and one in B'Head) and I've gone for the one on the Wirral. The office I'll be working in is just off Hamilton Square for anybody who knows the area, and it's very leafy and pleasant. The journey from Lime Street to Hamilton Square took about 5 minutes on the Wirral line, and that's one of the things which helped me to decide.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to my move, and if I do end up raising a family I can always move elsewhere.

Er, someone said on the previous page that warrington wasn't very nice, and they went through it trying to get to Widnes.

For god's sake, you were trying to get to the armpit of the northeast and it's *Warrington* you didn't like?

Widnes has two redeeming features: Everton play reserve matches at the rugby ground, and I have a holiday job there with very good wages. That's it!

Quite right, Granger, it's just off Western Point Expressway. You know when you're near by the abundance of smoke-belching chimneys littering the skyline.
A friend of mine lives in Wid. The sole redeeming feature he could think of is that they host "Widstock", an annual music festival. Great!

To settle the debate over which is better, North or South, I asked two friends, one from Liverpool and one from London for what they considered to be the top things from their end of the country in different catergories.
Here are the results:

With little effort I could make up a fab south list and a really horrible northern one but can't be bothered ! Your friend I think was made up - out of your own misconceptions. The south has some beautiful countryside and buildings don't you know.

I think you'll find Leeds is packed full of 20th Century architecture, though.

That's more than likely true. My friend has a selective memory - rather like Moor Granger's friend who has a blinkered view of life in the south. It seems there's good and bad everywhere which is enlightening.

Ditto Sheffield, with Cutlers' Hall being a good example. It may have been erected, yes erected in the 19th Century, but renovations have occurred fairly frequently since then, so it still qualifies. Trams work very well and there are plans to extend lines into the 'burbs. The one thing I do hate is Meadowhell.

I live in the Midlands. Here we see both the appeal and the drawbacks of living in the North or South of Britain. But, being Midlanders we are (with the exception of some areas, most notably the black country) a bit nondescript with regards to accents, or phrases. For instance, where I come from, Lincolnshire, many people I have met on my travels around Britain have no idea where it is unless I mention Skegness (run down seaside resort) or Grantham (Thatchers birthplace).
