Well it is in the town centre but the train station for the commuter line is about10 minutes walk from it, and the bus station is about 5 minutes away. You can get the train straight to it but it involves getting another train (this confuses some visitors to Lpool when trying to get to southport - they wait for over half an hour for trains between stations that they could walk to...I know the sports presenters had a moan about it when the golf visited the royal birkdale).
To get to birkenhead still requires a train change - but only one and the train times are co-ordinated (the lime st ones aren't because noone uses them).
Oh no - I'm a train bore...and I talk about motorways
Parking is not fun in Lpool - Lime St car park is fairly cheap but not as cheap as getting the train.....although I always get lost driving back home because I learnt to drive down here (which says it all really - i didn't *need* to drive before moving down south..now I drive over 70 miles a day )

Southport isn't half scouse/ half-lancastrian. Its full of scottish people and therefore infinitely better the south. Southport has a lawnmower museum and there isn't one in the south. Finally southport is the home of chewits and thus deserves respect around the world. Warrington on the other hand isn't very nice. I've only been there once though when I got the wrong train when I was trying to get to Widnes.

Southport is full of nutters...during school we had to do a survey on crisp tastes - one old bloke cornered us and started ranting on about hitler's daughter (?) should rule the world.
My mum also used to work in southport and its not all bad..the market is nice and so is the chocolate shop on lords st.
Southport fair is a frightening place, and the overall's that they make their employees wear are hideous.
All the posh kids from merchants used to live in Southport and would take a bus to get to the station 5 minutes walk away...lazy little b*****ds

As one of 'the posh kids from Merchants' I used the bus to get to school and hardly ever got the train. Nayway merchants isn't really posh. Its just the head who is a posh bloke from down south. most of the people round there are all right.

*pah* Is there nobody I can call names anymore without someone popping up and saying "thats me and I'm alright really"
....well there is still salisbury, I've asked a few times for researchers from salisbury to change my opinions and got no response.
I still think the ones who got the bus *and* the train where lazy little s*ds.
Nice to meet you Moor - welcome to H2G2...if it makes you feel better I would slag off waterloo just as much as southport if I thought anyone would know where I was talking about
PQ (fingers crossed because I just got booted )

For those not in the know, "Merchants" refers to a fee-paying school called Merchant Taylors in a suburb just north of Liverpool called Crosby. In an attempt to give itself airs and graces above itself it has adopted some of the worst tendencies of the English public school system. The area where I was from used to offer two scholarships a year to this school. One of them was offered to me. I declined. Firstly, in a soccer mad area they play rugby union. Also, because of 'Wednesday Sport' you were to attend school on Saturday morning, in full uniform - including the cap!. Being a Grammar School boy got me into enough trouble, I'd have been murdered if I'd gone there

I'm a Londoner who's in the process of moving to Geordieland...I love it up here...but would you adam and eve it, I can't afford a house in the middle of newcastle! They're far more expensive than my cheapo part of london!

It's the same in Liverpool. There are luxury apartments going up in the City Centre for 300K-plus. The only people around here who can afford that are footballers and gangsters. The footballers tend to live near Southport (except for Wayne Rooney who lives with his mum and dad). So your left with the gangsters

Can't believe Liverpool's got that expensive - my rent was only 25 quid a week when I lived there...
To be fair it was on Scotland road tho and it didn't really have heating that functioned.

PQ Posted Nov 29, 2002
Its the albert dock style apartments + city centre parking + heating that puts the prices up...this morning has a lot to answer for....

Rents! Don't talk to me about bl**dy rents! There are that many people claiming the social in Liverpool that rents are actually sky-high. They don't care what the rent is. 400pcm rent for a house that would only cost 25 grand to buy. It's ridiculous and distorts everything
North Vs. South - No Mindless Bigotry please ;)
PQ Posted Nov 29, 2002
wow - that would only cost £200pcm on a rippoff mortgage...and you'd still have £200 to spend on maintainance

Ay, there's the rub! Most lenders require you to be in a job with a payslip, not one where you get paid down the pub cash in hand.
