"What's wrong with our beer"
Well, newcastle Brown settles in Transit, so the closer you are to newcastle, the better.

Pedigree doesn't travel well either, so there's sod all chance of getting a decent pint of the stuff down south...

I personally rather like the idea of a bit of space while not wanting to be too far from something interesting to do. You can get this set of circumstances all over the country, only the relative density of people/jobs/things to do thins out as you move North and West. I think it is a question of finding the level that makes you happy. In my case it is somewhere much less busy than Surrey but somewhat more lively than Sutherland.

I don't particularly like countryside horizons because they're simply boring. Give me a few buildings ot scrutinize, some roads with frequent traffic, etc. and I'm happy. That's one of the good things about Manchester, actually. You've got the cityscape in the foreground and, in any reasonably tall building, some sizeable hills outside the town.

They won't let me keep the same glass either, last time as was in the Devil's armpi, sorry London. Fresh glass everytime, the beer just doesn't taste right

That's true, you need to get the same one refilled to give the night, day, evening, mnorning etc. that sense of continuity.

Countryside horizons aren't boring, they're breathtaking! Rolling hills, cliffs, golden leaves on tall oak trees, lambs frollicking in the distance, misty moors. Honestly, no *soul* some people

Perhaps I ought to cement my Southern Softie status by suggesting that *wince* I don't like beer all that much ... sort of.

In Essex, there are no hills, cliffs or lambs to speak of. One field is much like another and, unless you're climbing them (as I used to do not all that many years ago...), so are trees. Buildings, however, are usually all different, except in suburban sinkholes of homogeneity and some Victorian terraces, which are quite interesting too, in a way.

How can you not like the countyside?? It's beautiful, and so interesting. Don't you just love sitting at the top of a hill, watching the world go by... everything is in slow motion, it's peaceful. You don't have thousands of people, noise everywhere, and streetlights. I hate streetlights. I can't sleep for them. I'm so glad I come from a village with none at all (though, yes, I know, that'll be why I hate them)!

'One field is much like another'. Honestly. You're not supposed to study each one, you're supposed to enjoy the breathtaking vista *as a whole*, and just gaze and contemplate life, and the beauty of nature.

'Countryside. One vast toilet for sheep.'
Ronnie barker, as Evans the Magnificent, I believe.
A former country now thoroughly happily urbanised.

KerrAvon, I like you. After my own heart. I have problems living where I do now, leafy Edgbaston in Birmingham. Sometimes I *need* space. And not more buildings, roads, people... I miss my countryside more than I miss my family to be honest.

Im with Just Bob.
Well actually, I dont really like any alcoholic drinks, well, apart from crappy soft alcopop drinks. I love getting drunk though. Solution? Drink Double Vodka Red Bulls all night. Nice and strong, keeps you awake, and its not like you're a bloke wandering around the pub with a smirnoff ice!!!

I don't see that that has a lot to do with where you live mind
I do miss getting to look at the cows every morning, but the park by my house is a reasonable substitute, except when the neds get the police called on them.

"its not like you're a bloke wandering around the pub with a smirnoff ice!!!"
I am.
It would be all very well, sitting at the top of a hill and watching the world go by, but it DOESN'T go by, it just STAYS where it IS!
As I have said, I'm not a fan of most beer, but I do make exceptions. My experiences with Newcastle Brown have been reasonably good, for instance, and that time I went to Bruges in Belgium with the family...
