Anyone 'bazookerd' a verruca?
Madbeachcomber, I've done my spring cleaning, does that make me sad? Started conversation Feb 1, 2006
I have been fortunate enough to have never have had a verruca, but my littlun has picked one up and we're treating it with this bazooka stuff (right pain it is, pick it, soak it ,treat it, leave it to dry) But what I dont know is how do you know when its gone? It doesnt say on the instructions. At the mo it looks like a red spot with white skin round it where the ointment has "burnt' it. I can see 3 or 4 tiny points in the red bit which look like the wart I had on my finger years ago, do I wait till these go? I dont want to keep treating it unnessesarily. Any advice apreciated

That's amazing, little airscotia has picked up one of these blighters too, and we're at the same stage of treatment.
It takes an age to get rid of the pesky things unfortunately, as airscotia 2 had one last year. You have to go on appling the stuff til theres nothing to see except a patch of white skin. No hole, no black/ red bits in it, as these are the warts (which varruca's are) themselves.Another good indication is when the area stops being painful, but that's only a rough guide.
I'll let you know if we crack this problem, in order to give you a timescale, but i seem to remeber it was months last time.

Interestingly, if you Google 'veruca ointment' the first search result is an H2G2 article:

I had them last year and tried 'Bazuka' to no avail. My Chiropodist then tried a different treament, which also didn't work, so bought out the Big Guns. This bought me out in another bout of Cellulitis (3 years after the previous case) which meant heavy doses of Antibiotics, to prevent hospitalisation.
The only remedy was Banana skins, which worked fantastically, and I now have two areas which are minimal. So easy too. Just cut the Banana to size, and apply to the skin with a plaster, and change as necessary.
Saves money as well as tastes nice, if you can eat Bananas (Unfortunately I can't as they give me Chronic Heartburn).
Good Luck, and wait for lovely healthy pink skin, then you know you've cracked it.

About 1980 you used to be able to get a bottle of brown and very smelly liquid. Anyone know what that was called and if you can still get it?

MONTHS! Oh joy. I thought a couple of weeks. Whats the betting as soon as this one has gone and shes back doing PE in bare feet she'll get another
I think I might try the banana skin thing, I've read about that before and it seems easier than the ointment, IF I can persuade madam that having nana skin taped to the sole of her foot is a good idea
Thanks for all your help, happy varrucaing

I was plagued by them for ages and tried everything but nothing seemed to work.I even had one on my thumb. In the end I just covered them up and and lived with them. The next thing I knew they had gone.I keep wondering if they will ever come back but I have been free for about 4/5 years now.

Madbeachcomber: sympathies. Gruesome #1 is prone to the blighters, although she hasn't had one for a while.
Our doc gave us a sort of impregnated plaster, which had to be cut to size, stuck on and changed every 2 days. No idea what it is called, and since it's German it probably won't help much.
It actually ate away at the skin, which is pretty yukky for a wee one.
When I was at boarding school in the 70s/early 80s, anyone who got a verucca had them dug out - literally with a scalpel and no anasthetic, the doc and the school nurse just hacked away at them.
BTW: why does your littleun have to do PE in bare feet? Perhaps you should have a word with the school - it sounds like a very bad idea to me.
