Setting Teeth on Edge?

Metal on metal doesn't bother me much (I've never heard fingernails on blackboards, so I don't know about that one). There are two sounds that *do* set my teeth on edge, though. One is metal dragged over stone or concrete. When I was a kid, I used to have to rake up the grass after Dad had cut the lawn. The sound of the rake on the path really bugged me. The other sound is nails being filed. My mother-in-law won't file her nails if I'm around, which can be a problem if she's just broken a nail - she just picks at the broken nail. That doesn't set my teeth on edge, but it is irritating.

Dentist drills - and also the mechanical teeth scraper/cleaner thingy I refuse to allow anything that makes a noise like that near my mouth.

I can't stand the sound of nails being filed with a metal nail file but wooden emery boards are OK. Tell her to try one and see if you can cope with it.

What about when you get a bit of foil mixed in with your creme egg!
I just had a huge filling done yesterday and its doing that "really metallic" thing!
Didn't help that I had to replaced a brake cable on my bike!
