Which films should NEVER be remade?
Lady in a tree Posted May 27, 2002
Along the lines of Airplane there is one film that should be left well alone - Blazing Saddles!
THE one that encompasses a genre and should therefore be sacred... Frederico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita"

Barbarella shouldn't be remade but Drew Bazza seems to think she can live up to Jane Fonda and her classic. C'est la vie.
I think SW Episode one should be remade without JarJar. In fact, I'd like to remake Episode one without JarJar. Let me, please!

Oh and incidently, Tron is a classic that shouldn't be touched.

Madent, in answer to your question;
A play is just that, a collection of words that mean nothing until interpreted.
A film is a collaborative effort between a writer, a director, a lighting cameraman, a composer and a series of actors. Something like casablanca is bottled lightning-second choice leading man, second choice leading lady, third choice director.
Yet it remains a classic.
Far too much of Hollywoods re-make fever is to do with 'Actor X is as big a draw as Bogart, let's remake The Big Sleep' whereas they should be saying Actor X is as big as Bogart, what original vehicle can we find to put him in that will prove that?'

Interesting you should mention Capra.
I notice that the latest Adam sandler vehicle is Mr Deeds.
Yes, a re-make of the Capra/Cooper classic.
Brought to you by the same people who brought you Deuce Bigolow:Male Gigolo.
Can you *IMAGINE*...

I actually found Deuce Bigalo quite funny, but that doesn't mean I want them to remake classic movies. Eddie Murphy as Doctor Doolittle and the Nutty Prof. I don't think so!
They should never remake My Fair Lady or Rebecca.

They remade 'An Affair to Remember', but changed the title. The remake starred Warren Beatty and Annette Bening and was called 'Love Affair'.

I just saw the remake of Rollerball, and they totally missed the point and churned out a poo filum.

They are remaking 'The Italian Job' setting it in San Fransisco (!?!) with the new BMW "Mini's" and they get away with the gold.
It breaks my heart... it really does.
Goddamn Hollywood Heathens.

Well, with any luck, it'll fall flat on it's face, just like the Stallone re-make of Get Carter.
Any body spot that in the cinema? Didn't think so. Coming to a dvd bargain bin near you soon.

What about the re-makes of Anna Karenina? The original was a classic with Garbo and Frederic March. Alexander Korda re-made it with Vivienne Leigh and that was inferior but not too bad. But the NBC made a version with Jane Seymour. I know this because I was an extra. I held Doug McClure's horse

I can kind of see the logic behind the casting. Imagine the office where the idea was pitched;
Q: What is Michael Caine's greatest strength as an actor?
A: The ability to look as though he is not acting.
Q: What is Stallone's greatest weakness as an actor?
A: The inability to act.
Gee whiz, quick, it's a natural!

Poot old Doug Mclure. A worthy career in movies and tv to find yourself reduced to a pinpoint accurate caricature on the Simpsons.
What did he do to deserve it?

I don't think they'll be re-doing any of his old films. But if they did and wanted to dumb them down even further who could you pick? Bernard Cribbins maybe?
