'I'm rather fond of being tall... It means I suck at hide and seek though.'
If that's the worst of it, I take it you've never walked into a lintel.

Belana: I just thought that Godzilla comment was rather bad. And you might not want to insult someone that much bigger than you.

Being tall is also handy at gigs in places with flat floors. You can see the band over everyone else's heads.

But not good in cinemas where there's no room for your legs.

Gonna go out on a limb here, but it does seem to me, in every day life, that blokes do seem to be getting taller, whether that is in the extremes or on average, and women not. In my family, for example, the blokes are all around 6ft or above. My nephews look very mugh like they will be 6footers as well. Whereas my sisters are much shorter, as is my mum and my grandparents and it looks like my niece is gonne be a shrimp as well.
Maybe just my perception of things as I count anyone under under 6ft as short (well, they are to me!).
Tefkat (I think it was?) I used to call my mum shrimp and my eldest nephew does the same to his mum.
Also uses her (as I did with my mum) as a leaning post as soon as I was tall enough

There is a Dutch researcher that I don't know if I should name, who I think is about 7 foot.

I agree with Ictoan. I was at Martha Wainwright on Saturday (superb night) could see her much though, mainly other people's backs/heads etc
however, there were an awful lot of short women/tall men there.
I have this thing where my partner, 6' 2", spots a short woman in the crowd and I have to walk towards them to see if they are smaller than me 4' 11" - there were several on Saturday that were smaller than me and some I did not even have to do a "walk-by" to *know* I was taller. Now that is what I call entertainment, folks!

You'd be surprised There are of course the usual things like buses, trains and planes being designed for tiny people. I'm never travelling long distance by National Express again unless I'm *guaranteed* both seats. Then I can get a little leg room.

I think it circle line trains that my husband cannot stand up straight in - the world is indeed designed for tiny people
