I'm quite surprised nobody has yet mentioned the pictures of Checkpoint Charlie the night the Berlin Wall was pulled down.

The WTC image I think I'll most remember is the person waving the handkerchief out the window from one of the upper floors just before the tower collapsed. It was repeated on news coverage a lot after the towers fell and summed up the kind of desperate, ultimately futile hope which seems to most characterise the event and aftermath.

a girl called Ben

Since the tennis player seems to be a British image, she seemed worth tracking down. I have put a link to her in my Links page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A545320

the autist formerly known as flinch

I've just found out the was a TV show called '5 minutes pour une image' (i assume it was on French TV - perhaps Canadian) in which tthey had chosen 100 important photos of the 20th
century every evening, some people talked about 1 of these 100 photos for 5 mn. Does anyone remember this? Or know what pictures they chose?
