Ceridwen (Cynic and atheist waiting for the republic of heaven)

Yes I have been reading Philip Pullman, but so should everybody else.

Writing this watching Man Utd's dismal draw with Bayern Munich I'm a bit lost for inspiration. So...

I loved Hitch-hiker's Guide which is pretty much why I'm here. Other things I love are old movies (Arsenic and Old Lace, Singing in the Rain, Mr Smith Goes to Washington) most things with James Stewart or Cary Grant, actually), The Simpsons, Buffy, The Lord of the Rings, Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, Formula One, Disney, pubs, Super Furry Animals, Mercury Rev and anything to do with the ocean. The bits with animals in it, preferably. Forget about the yeti, I'm waiting for them to catch a giant squid on film.

In fact, I would have done marine biology but I hate and loathe science so it was an English degree instead. Which is good, because now I hate, loathe and despise anything with the word "Classic" above the title. My mini guide on how not to waste precious life-time is this -

Do not read (in no particular order)

Robinson Crusoe
Moll Flanders
Ulysses
Paradise Lost
Finnegan's Wake
The Scarlet Letter
Madame Bovary
Anything by Charles Dickens (except A Christmas Carol, of course.)

And Moby Dick. Because the giant squid beats the whale every time. (Well, if the whales didn't eat them, but they do fight first...)

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
