Funny little rituals

When I was little I used to have this very strange habit when ever I walked. I would have to take an even number of steps wherever I walked. If I got to my destination and had taken an odd number of steps, I would take another step in place just so that I would have taken an even number of steps. Luckly I eventually grew out of that habit.

For some reason, I thought seeing a digital clock _change to_ something on-the hour (like 12:00, 2:00, etc.) was bad luck, but glancing at it and seeing it _at_ one of those numbers was good luck. Don't ask me why.

i don't care about the on-the-hour ones, but i do care about (in order)1:23, 12:23, (exponents of 2)1:24, 12:48,(all the same) 1:11, 11:11, 2:22,...5:55, (perfect squares)1:21, 1:44, 2:25, 2:56, 6:25 and the cube of 1:25. mathmatically interesting ones catch my eye.
i always count stairs as i go up them.(the actual number of stairs, which s the number of times you step up minus one.)

Oh, and symmetrical ones are special too. 10:01, 3:23, etc.

You mean palindrones?
Sometimes I purposely try to get my number of postings to be a three digit palindrone when I log off of h2g2

when walking by myself, just for fun, i still try to avoid stepping on cracks. when my sister and i were young we had a big thing with the rhym "step on a crack you marry a rat"

I thought it was step on a crack and you break your mothers back.

Robin Posted Jun 28, 2001
yeah i've heard that one as well. i guess we always thought marrying a rat was worse. or maybe the thought of breaking our mothers back just didn't appeal so much. who can remember, it was a long long time ago

Was it christopher robin who said there were bears around the corner waiting for you to step on a crack because then they could get you!
Maybe it was just Terry Pratchett!

When entering a number on a numeric keypad e.g. my pin number at a bank or the product selection on the nasty coffee machine I always use the finger order: middle finger, ring finger, index finger , middle finger regardless of what the number is.

The pattern continues...if its less the pattern is truncated.
However this is not the case for touch telephone keypads...I don't think they have a pattern. *goes off to phone someone*

When I leave for work in the morning (and the office at night if it has been a bad day), I play Benny Goodman - Sing, Sing, Sing as loud as I can!
I can't explain how good it makes me feel... its the way the drums come in first with that classic swing rhythm. Then you get the trumbones and sax, then the trumpets and cornets answering them. Then after a few bars they all launch into that classic melody.
It literally has me dancing down stairs and my way to the station and grinning like a loon!

On the way to work there are two lamp posts about 200 yards apart. I try to drive between them with my eyes closed and steering with my knees and then guess when I have reached the second lamp post.
