I know millions of people love these two actresses but they just drive me bonkers! Julia "horseface" Roberts and Gweneth "my daddy got me this job" Paltrow. I don't understand people's facination with them. I won't go so far as to say that they're bad, but they're SO BORING! I want to die from lack of brain activity whenever I watch one of them. Gwen makes out like she's so intelligent, but she hasn't got more than a high-school diploma; not to mention the fake almost-British accent! They are both proof that the Academy Awards are pretty much meaningless. Suddenly Julia Roberts dies her hair blonde and wears a push-up bra and plays the EXACT same character that she's played IN EVERY SINGLE OTHER MOVIE, maybe with a touch more oomph, in the longest, whiniest, mopst boring movie ever made na dnow she's treated like a serious actress!

What about Mr. "Hey! I'm posh and have floppy hair, so I don't have to act, women love me anyway!"
You know who I mean...
Julia Roberts at least demonstrated an ounce of talent in Erin Brockovich.

RF,I don't know who you mean
I don't like Julia Roberts with blonde hair, but to call her 'horseface' is unfair - plus, whether she is, or is not beautiful, doesn't say anything about her talent.

Here's a few clues, Bel:
1. He plays posh Englishmen in his films.
2. He has been in nearly every successful British Romcom of the last 10 years.
3. He has floppy hair.
4. He can't act.
5. His name's Hugh Grant.
Can you guess who it is yet?

Julia Roberts, aside from being hideous, couldn't act her way out of a wet paper sack.
Other annoying actors...
Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler and the MOST annoying actor EVER- Ben Stiller

Jim Carey was good in The Truman Show, and The Majestic. Didn't think much of Eternal Sunshine, though...

RF, thanks - I should have guessed it, but then again, hardly anybody can act nowadays
Psychocandy, do you think the actors are annoying, or the films /roles they act in ?

Alan Halsall.
First he was an annoying regular in Children's Ward
Next he was an annoying regular in Hetty Wainthrop Investigates
Now he's an annoying "mechanic" guy called Tyrone in Coronation Street
Also at school he was labelled the most likely person to kiss Veronica Dribblethwaite because of his appearances in Dairylea adverts,

Well, it is true that they've all been in stupid, annoying movies, so there is that. But I thought that "Eternal Sunshine", "The Truman Show", and "Man on the Moon" could've been good movies if not for Jim Carrey being in them. Ruined all three films for me.

It's absolutely amazing but true, that the most irritating actors ever, have through some bizarre coincidence, managed to all get jobs in the current cast of the BBC1 series "Eastenders"

I don't really know what people mean by saying Grant and Roberts can't act. Obviously they can or they wouldn't get cast in Hollywood movies. What you mean is you don't like their style of acting, or that they're not in the same league as Meryl Streep or Robert DeNiro. But they can still act.
If you want to see people who can't act try watching bad New Zealand television (early Shortland St comes to mind - you've had that in the UK yeah?)

Jennifer Lopez
Ben Affleck
Mind you, I'm not sure they should be mentioned in the same sentence as the words actress and actor

Umm, the giveaway there is 'Hollywood'. I don't think 'acting' has been a requirement in Caliphonia since Newman and Redford were at their peak. And looking at Liz Taylor's career it wasn't exactly a prime requirement then.
I'd agree with Huge Grunt, and Paltrow. Roberts and Carrey have both had their moments. Personally I think Meryl 'a different accent for every movie' Streep is hugely over-rated, but I'd never let the appearance of a certain actor put me off seeing a movie (unless it's Arnie, who fiddled with his scripts waaaay too much and ruined some perfectly serviceable movies in the process).
Actors , as Hitchcock once remarked, should be treated like cattle. The reason for watching movies is most likely to be down to direction/camerawork and script. Mostly actors are just clotheshorses, although good direction (such as M Night Shamalyan and Terry Gilliam with Bruce Willis) can turn a clotheshorse into an actor.

Can I extend it to Radio 4
Nicklearse Parsons and Sandy Toxicstick. Both of them should be taken from that place and hanged by the neck until they promise to never, ever utter another word on air.

Ok, so define what bad acting, acting, good acting, and not being able to act are.
Because as far as I can see all the actors named so far can act, at least enough of the time to have careers. How many Hugh Grant films have you seen?

Bad acting is usually a matter of not being able to take direction or thinking you don't need to take direction.
Method acting is nonsense, as well.
