Right!I ain't in to football, I don't support ANY team/s, I don't watch any matches etc. I couldn't care less about England and the world cup, there'll be no football matches on my TV and when mates say "did you see/hear etc etc!" my answer will be "no and not bothered either"
asked why I don't back Englandis an easy answer! I'm a Yorkshireman and British, NOT English, European or the like.
The only flag I'd raise is the White Rose of YorkshireI ain't got one
As a Dickens character once said - bah humbug!
(he didn't actually after he said it though)

Here's one to try out on the footballing-supporting fraternity:
"I don't like watching football being played...that's why I support England"

I'm not into footie either, Prof. Nor tennis - in fat I don't think there;s many sports more boring to watch than tennis. So we intend to have a month of no tv (hooray!!!!) and only middle of the day R4 and switch it off when the news comes on.
We'll select BBC news from the internet so we can just ignore anything related to footie or Wimbled on - that's right, we don't like being wimbled on
We may even resort to subotage of cars that display those window flags. I don't get those - I mean, how do they make the team play better?
Roll on the rugger season when a sensible game is played, and thank goodness for golf

No, the flags aren't designed to make the team play better. They are designed-along with St George bunting and flags, over-priced shirts, World Cup barbecue packs, special 'limited edition' cans of lager and 48" plasma screens- to get gullibe idiots to kick-start the economy by parting with their hard-earned (or handed-out benefits) cash.
What gets me is these people that buy an item of 'sportswear', i.e. a football shirt, and then stretch it to its absolute limits over their beer and burger-induced stomachs! Eng-er-land!!!

Apparently there's some rugby on saturday morning... We're popping into town but have to be back in time for it, so I'm told.. Which is fine by me, I dont like going into town once everyone else has arrived anyway, I'm well up for being there at 9.30 and leaving by ten

For the next few weeks I'm going to be very grateful indeed for my geographical location... Most of the World Cup games will be on sometime around 3 or 4am. I'll sleep through the whole thing.

I like both, to watch anyway. They are such different games, it's as different as 20/20 cricket Vs test... About which I know more than I'd like to admit. I have to say though, a cricket match that lasts about as long as a football game is far superior if you ask me. For the spectator anyway. For the players it's more like playing Cheat or Rummy when they are used to playing Bridge...

""Roll on the rugger season ? league I hope""
I prefer the superior version of the game, Prof. And before you say it, no, I mean, Union
League's OK, but as I played RFU as a lad, (scrum half - never scored a point, but made a few) I feel more at ease with that.
We'd best be careful now or we'll be getting out the flags ourselves when the next Rugby World Cup comes round

At least it's not such a massive waste of money when the England rugby team don't do well as it is with the soccer debacle!

Am I wrong in thinking that playing for your country doesn't come with a wage packet?

I think the FA pays them for playing for England - and I also think they get paid just for being called up - even if they don't play!

Ah-hah, I have consulted my mobile encyclopedia...
Apparently they do get paid but certainly as far as the english players are concerned, it goes to charity.
So it's probably expenses paid and the fee for playing they see nothing of...
Lets face it, they all get paid more than enough by their clubs just for breathing!
