Somehow I've got the images of Phallic Symbolism and downward pointing Bishop's mitre entwined in my head.

I'm a 'Not at All' - our bathroom is too small to have anywhere suitable to put up a holder. However, there is no danger in our case of it toppling over into the bowl - there's a very nice niche between the cistern and the perspex shower screen on the side of the bath that is the perfect width for a toilet roll.

So, you see, it can be done!

Another option for those who are paranoid about turning round be greeted by a flimsy cardboard cylinder where a bog roll should be is those foot long vertical poles where you can stack four rolls at a time. Unbeatable security.

I can remember being told some years ago that this was an etiquette question asked of one of the American doyens of etiquette - can't remember her name, but she is famous. She replied, 'over' and gave a list of reasons why. Want me to try to find out?

If I'm being pedantic, I'd suggest that that could be confused with how you get rid of it, i.e. stick it down the pan.

Female/over, been known to change it round at home if visiting friends put it on the wrong way not really a big deal though.
