If I were stuck in a hole
BicycleSkald Posted Apr 24, 2003
Well, barring a ladder or a nice length of rope...
One blanket.
One cell phone so I could talk to my wife (she hates to be out in the cold and wet).
A small camp stove.
A pot.
Three gallon of potable water.
A cup.
A can opener.
About twenty cans of Chef Boyardee canned ravioli.
A fork.
A flashlight, or reading light.
Extra Batteries.
A notebook.
A pen.
A copy of the collected plays of Tom Stoppard.
My homework.
A portable writing desk.
An easel.
A drawing pad.
A set of graphite drawing pencils.
A giant bag of M&M's.
A laptop with satellite internet access.
A giant poster of Portland, Oregon.
And a big shovel to make room for all this stuff.

Hmmm... I would want a large array of nuclear weapons, and the means to launch them, and then a camoflage umbrella to cover the hole with, so's I could hold the world at ransom and never be found in the hole.

Oh, and a ladder, that'd be nice for later.

Are you asking me those questions Captn Rhett?

Yes indeedy, Oliver Wood would be a very good idea! Of course, having Wood AND a ladder is out of the question. The two are, by choice, mutually exclusive...

Hi, I'm new!
hmm...
I would need a lighter(mebbe my butane jet lighter), a large spliff(rolled the U.S. way(no tobacco, only good green)), a larger spliff, a portable TV(perhaps with cable or satellite(I can dream, can't I?)), a really big spliff, mebbe one of them trucker blankets that we sell at truck stops here in the states, a pack of Marlboro menthols, mebbe some food(anything vedgetarian), a hair rubber band(to hold back my hair), a HUGE spliff(barring the spliffs, a "quarter bag" of KB (or mebbe even "Northern Lights"!!), my hand-carved onyx skull pipe from Mexico(the one my Dad took ;..-(, umm... that's all I can post for now, I'll be back, though.

Essential in a hole? Definitely a kitten and a flashlight. Kittens are one of the most amusing creatures on the planet.

I would need a torch, a good, long book and a large bottle of water.

Basic essentials:
Survival blanket(s)
A first aid kit - to treat any scrapes I suffered, hopefully I didn't break any limbs falling down there.
A light source with back up power (eg torch with extra batteries, hurricane lamp etc)
Some chocolate.
Ample clean water.
Hmm if I was out walking with friends in a place where I might fall down a hole, I would probably have these with me already.
Adding luxuries and if it was going to be a long time:
A groundsheet - to prevent the damp bottom of the hole making me damp and any dirtier. A survival blanket can be used instead, if ness.
A set of blankets and survival blankets - for warmth and comfort. Maybe even a few pillows.
A good book. If more than 2 hours, more good books (I read fast, so my average time to read a book is about 2 hours.)
A cooking source (eg my gas trangia) and nice food stuffs to cook.
I concur that discrete toilet facilities would be a good idea. Difficult though. A trowel and some thick string and tent pegs - rig up a screen with a survival blanket, the string and pegs and use the trowel to make a hole for the toilet so that my pit doesn't get smelly.
An Amateur Radio rig (with power) - my friends can set up the aerial. If my friends have to travel a distance to contact the authorities to rescue me, then contacting someone by amateur radio can speed up my rescue.
