"Are you blaming me?"
"I don't blame anyone; it's out of fashion."
- H.G. Wells, "The Invisible Man"
I like it, because it sounds so modern (or possible postmodern) and yet was written over a century ago.

'I like the world. It has dog races, Manchester United, and people, walking around like Happy meals on legs.' Spike, 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' (in an accent which is, if anything, Cockney)
'Peace is good for business.' Ferengi Rule of Acquisition
'War is good for business.' Ferengi Rule of Acquisition
'Never pay more thab you absolutely have to.' Ferengi Rule of Acquisition
'Be nice to your enemies occasionally; it confuses the hell out of them.' Ferengi Rule of Acquisition

The last two RoAs are probably adapted from real quotes by the Star Trek people. Does anybody know if an official set of RoAs has ever been published amongst that mound of merchandise? If so, I'd love to get hold of it. There really are some Rules there which are wisdom for the Modern age.

I do believe I have seen a copy of the RoA, couldn't tell you who it was published by though. I have a vague recollection that it may have been written by Armin Shimerman but I'm not sure.
Favourite Star Trek quote: "Take the cheese to sickbay" has to be a contender.

Speaking of which, could anyone explain to me what Q is? Is he a human, an alien or a god? I can't find any good Star Trek sites on the internet that tells it.

I loved this quote posted a while ago:
"The creation of the universe was made possible by a grant from Texas Instruments"
I assume this refers to a television program that was sponsored by Texas Instruments but it just sounds too good to be true.
How's about this one, said by me after my mum commented about the state of my bedroom:
"It's not a mess, it's just chaotically tidy."

Is there an h2g2 Trekkie area? I have some answers and some questions, but it doesn't seem right to take over such a good thread

I said the first part of that quote, hicupping slightly, to a guy who had just reminded me that I was drunk and who looks like a gargoyle - balding, big grin, and stiky out ears - as I left I heard him telling the rest of the quote to the entire room!
Dig a hole for a man, and he's got a hole. Give him a spade, and he'll dig it deeper than you ever could...
