Fragrant plants - yes! I was thinking lots of flowers too, as long as there is nothing that requires spraying (the roses would have to be old fashioned varieties). A nice park bench under an oak tree would be great too.

Whining well is a highly evolved art form Abbi smiley - ok. Hope you're doing alrightish smiley - hug.

As for the worms, I saw a documentary about a man with Crohn's Disease who drinks a cup of worms' eggs every day. I'm pretty sure thats what its is, but I will have to watch it again. The theory being that our modern lifestyle is killing off all the beneficial organisms in our GI tract, and there is apparently a direct statistical correlation between bowel disease and lack of worms.

That's me paraphrasing very badly. But the doco was great - they were talking about the hygiene theory of disease. Where we disinfect so much of our environment that there aren't enough germs to teach our immune systems how to interrelate with the world, hence the huge increase in autoimmune disease and allergies. Again a direct correlation between the countires that disinfect and have the highest incidence of A/I and allergy disease. (People in countries that don't disinfect die from contagious disease instead, but I'm sure there is a balance between the two somewhere).

It was very science based too, which was nice, as the alternative crowd have been saying this for years, but it always sounds so flakey from them.

And then right at the end this immunologist was saying get over the 'immunity as war' analogy, that our immune systems are in _communication_ with the world not at war with it smiley - biggrin.

*contented sigh*

sorry I thought this was going to turn into a whine about disinfectants, but the tv programme must have heartened me more than I realised. (I'll save the rant about not being able to buy dishcloths without disinfectant in them smiley - grr for another time).

Cheerful Dragon

It's dead easy to buy dishcloths without disinfectant in them. Our local supermarket has them in with the cleaning supplies, and our local market has them, too. There are probably other places I could go to, but those are the first that spring to mind.

I agree, though, about the problem with everything being 'anti-bacterial' or soaked with disinfectant. When I was a kid soap got you clean, soap powder got your clothes clean, washing-up liquid got your dishes clean, floor cleaner got your floors clean and that was about it. The only place where people worried about germs was the loo. Now we have anti-bacterial substances in everything, as well as anything else the manufacturers feel like throwing into their products. (Aloe Vera in toilet paper. Puh-lease!)

A little item in a magazine recently said that using anti-bacterial stuff on everything is probably going to lead to super-bacteria that we won't be able to kill, just as over-use of anti-biotics has lead to super bugs. We have some disinfectant wipes that we *occasionally* use on the kitchen work-tops, but only when the cats have been up on the ones we use to prepare food.

hey Moose, long time no chat. What didn't you understand?

Cheerful, thanks for the vote of support on disninfectants. Still very hard to buy disinfectant free ones here in NZ as the supermarkets have succumbed to all the bullshit about it. Out of 4 major superkarket chains I could find only one who had normal dish sponges and they only had one kind. I had to phone the manufacturer to make sure it didn't have anti-bacterial stuff in it, because some companies treat them and don't state it on the packet!!! (I had at least one company confirm this was going on, because the overseas manufacturer and local packager were different companies).

I agree about the bugs mutating, and the annoying thing is that the amount of anti-bacterial stuff in a sponge isn't enough to make any real difference to the number of bugs in the kitchen, but is enough to prompt them to evolve smiley - cross.

I wish I had the energy to start writing to the companies and getting them to look at the actual science around this.

pedboy

This is going to be a serious attempt for me to be serious. Here goes, my meds have been doubled within the last month, my neurologist has left her practice, so I have to get another.
To make things even a bit tricker, one of the drugs that has been doubled is to kill my immune system (that is what I'm worried about). At least I am not getting any worse (demylination), I cannot fight off any sickness that I am exposed to.
This sucks....

Aw Geez Pedboy! That really does throw you for a loop. I am sure most of us have been there at some point. I know I have, try to stay calm and do your homework because no one else will. Do you have to look on your own or will you be referred? Either way I hope it is quick, good luck .

I hate when you meds get changed then the Dr leaves, and who knows what the next Dr will think! I hope you get a plan soon so you will not stress more. It is easy at times for some of us to get bummed and not be able pursue what is best.

Is the medication working better for you?smiley - smiley
