Rivkeh Yankee-Shoes... bashing about the BoE again Posted Feb 6, 2003
"Till We Have Faces" a rewrite of cupid and psyche by C.S. Lewis, Spiritual Authority by Watchman Nee, and a couple other books, but those are my main ones. I'm almost to the end of the Lewis book, really fascinating, I think his style is so much more appealing and developed in this book than any of his other fictional pieces!
I love the book of Daniel! I'm just about to start Jeremiah, I was in a study on Sunday night, and realized I haven't read it in my new Bible yet... no underlines!!! Kinda cool, because I have a good one to read before heading into Lamentations, Numbers, and Deuteronomy (I always procrastinate on those... trying to enjoy them this time around.)

I like Lamentations!
They're not the most exciting, but if you look hard at them then there's a few nuggets in all of them.

Ah, hello Chronos.
Sorry I wasn't in at one of my homes.
I believe there is some green around.
Yes, Ecclesiastes is good too, although I know a lot of people who dislike the wisdom books because some of them are a little dry.

*hands Chronos some green * Do you take anything in it?
Eccl. ROCKS!!! One of my favorite memories is my friend Scott reading that book out loud on a long cartrip... the whole world was sunny and warm, even though it was October, and the love in the book came through all Solomon's frustration... Solomon was the dude... I have one of his quotes tattooed on my ankle "I am my beloved's and he is mine" (it's in Hebrew, though).

Yes it is kinda dry but its still pretty cool. I like all of Solomon's books. But you can never go wrong with the gospels, Jesus is da man.

that reminds me of this skit I have my drama kids doing... in it "Jesus" has a line... "Moses is such a stud"... lol... I was afraid the grown ups might think it irreverent... but they laughed!

Yeah.
I wrote a couple of skits for our service last night - I didn't think they were particularly funny (they were supposed to be but I thought they were a bit lame) but they went down well enough.
Humo(u)r in church is a great thing. After all, God's a very funny guy...

Definately... did you see "the Gospel According to Matthew" with Bruce Marchiano portraying Jesus? I loved the humour and joy that came through the performance... about time a Christian portrayed Christ.
I didn't know you wrote skits Euan! I told you I direct a touring drama team, right?

No, actually you didn't. But that's OK - I won't have to destroy you (which is just as well, since you're a friend - you're even on my friends' list )
Write skits? Well, I suppose you could call it that. First ones I've done on my own. One of them was an adaptaion of one I'd done before (Daniel - called "Lion down on the Job") and one was a dialogue with two men chatting about their relationships with their wives - guess what *that's* an allegory for.
I also had to act in both which was interesting. King Darius (me)comes on to the stage after his sleepless night, when Daniel's in the lions' den, carrying a teddy (my own one) and wearing a pair of Eeyore slippers (also mine - I shouldn't have said that, should I . I'll never live it down in the pub ).
Although the best skit I've been in (and co-wrote ) was one entitled "The Old Testanent in 5 minutes".

Personally i don't write that well but believe it or not writing on the guide seems to help me write better. Anyway i'm a better actor than i am a writer, right now i'm in a student directed scene from (the scottish play) i'm the docter observing lady Macbeth's sleepwalking. oh and I like a little honey in my green please

Here ya go... honey...
This year I'm doing all prewritten skits... I was told to "funny them up"... appearantly it was a little hard core on the conviction side last tour... I don't see the problem, but hey, I'm the employee.
My group of kids are really good this year... although it's gonna be hard to beat what happened on the God horizon last year on tour... we're touring with a singing group too, which will change the whole dynamic.

Random quote from our Christian Drama soc treasurer a few years back...
"You can make any play a Christian Play - just fall into 'Shine Jesus Shine' half way through..."
