Yes, you are.

no i am not
and just saying i am wrong does not make it so
unless, of course, you are a part of the group who defines reality

Thanks fluffy for your level headed critique
of the apple smiley
and your reminder that honest criticism
is to be welcomed, embraced and appreciated
not seen as mean, or cruel or unkind
apples come in many shapes and shades
but red and round is the usual standard
it needed to be said
not sure I can support the further charge of cliquishness
because one man's enthusiastic and close-knit group
of cyber-artists
is another man's art colony
another man's band of brothers (and/or sisters)
most peoples' idea of an ideal romantic society
and some artists' enviable establishment
and any such thought is essentially a diversion from
the issue of apples being as unlikely as oranges
in comparison

thanks jwf for your kind words...
as for the red round apple...
actually, if we were in a critique session...
i would (and i am sorry i didnt do this earlier) remark
upon how i could see how having the thrown tomato being round and red
could possibly inspire one to make the apple NOT red and round
and then maybe point out that the typical symbol of an apple is actually not round
but rather upside down pear shaped kinda... with two "rounded points" at the base
and a stem AND leaf at the top... yes very macintoshy but then they did get the apple message across didnt they!
anyway....
as for the apples and oranges cliquishness thingie
i never intended the concept of cliquishness to be coupled with the art community
it was rather in concert with protesting the calling of someone mean who has only critiqued the art...
when i talk about cliquishness or elite systems on here i am talking about the social scene where some folks gang up on others....
nice thoughts on the art community tho
very.... arty
and i think that the creative ones on here
have never given me a hard time
au contraire... they have welcomed me

Fluffy, you might notice that I too am an artist, but my skills lay more in photography. Your last post, the critiquing parts, is nice helpful and constructive, thank you You really should give smilies a go you might surprise yourself.

Red apple is standard? I don't see that many of them around here. More the green ones, or, eer... braeburn colour-ish... or pink lady... or the Boskoop Beauty, etc. I cannot name the colours, sorry (mild case of A883523). But the red ones, let alone round, I don't see very often.
(And now I forgot to get apples for dessert )

I suppose a very similar query would come up then if a new smiley were to appear of a European . It would be
a very rare North American 'researcher' that would recognize it as ours are not only much larger, but totally different
body shape and colourings as well.
I have atleast learned today.

I did a story about a robin once. You can find it at A64919154.
If you click on the link, there's a pic of the thrush North Americans call a 'robin'.
They're fun birds, I like them as neighbours. (No, we don't need a smiley. We've got .)
I am going to go and buy some apples now. I will refuse to buy them if they are fire-engine red.

I always buy the ones that look like they taste so much nicer than the over bred golden, or red delicious.

"By the way, do most apples in the UK/Euro zone really look like ?"
Well, now that you mention it, no. Every single apple I've ever bought, grown or picked was a damn sight larger than 16 pixels high - very observant of you to notice a difference.

I've just come back from the supermarket. With food prices what they are, those apples hard darn well better be bigger than 16 pixels.

I really don't want to beat on something that FKF had in there a few times, but ...
I am really curious as to what about post #97, warranted post #98?

Khamsin Posted Dec 16, 2011
one would think that maybe the artist who made said smiley was the one that commented..
I don't know because I haven't been in with the artists for a while.

Yes Captain, I know that you have been busy. Understandable with a full life and family. It just twitched a little all day that I somehow hurt someone, and I just can't see how or why. Like many other things here-abouts, I will never have an answer or understanding. n

I don't know it could be...
Things seem a little uneasy here at the moment, people seem on edge all over the place from what I have been reading just wish I could spread some calmness.
I forgot all the nature of things getting blown up and there does seem to be a lot of tension between what the artists do and what people want don't really understand it myself. Probably why I am a potter, if people like it and buy it good, if they don't it isn't my problem.

Well, post #95 was a following a lot of pretty complimentary posts. #98 was, if I recall, within 10 minutes of #97.
Maybe I'm just too sensitized. Have fun, ... I'll just be off somewhere else for a while.

Fun as it may be to grumble about smileys, neither smileys nor grumbling are the point of advent calendar.
