Monday 19 May 2014 - Announcing the retirement of QOTD

Post 1

h2g2 Operations

It is with regret that we have to announce that QoTD will no longer be updated.

As you all may be aware, Quote of the Day has not been updated since the beginning of the year. Due to the lack suitable of quotes available it has not been possible to change the quote daily or even weekly. QoTD will now be removed from the FP . The email address will still be open and checked regularly and should sufficient suitable quotes be submitted in the future, the feature may be restored

Thank you all for the quotes that were sent and used. We couldn't have done it without you.smiley - applause

For the volunteers
Milla smiley - cogs

Shame. There have been some beauts lately.

Thanks for clearing this up - people have been uncertain what was happening.

Can we use this as the unofficial QotD nominations thread, in that case?

If there is not enough for the front page...
How about an occasional column in the Post

Well if you're not going to use it, I'll just put it here instead:

Deb --- "h2g2 is like a dusty library full of well-upholstered, well-used armchairs and gentle table lamps creating intimate circles of light, in a world of brightly lit, noisy communal spaces."

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

When you say "the lack suitable of quotes available", is that because the quotes sent in weren't suitable, or is it that not enough (or any) quotes are being sent in? If it's the latter, how about changing the way quotes are submitted? A few suggestions have already been made. I frequently see quotes that might make the front page but it doesn't occur to me to log into my email and submit them. I suppose if I did it more often that connection might become stronger in my mind and start being remembered each time I see a quote.

I can see the advantage of email - quotes are sent anonymously because only the person who's administering it knows who submitted each one. A button would be similar in that it'd also be anonymous but I reckon Pastey already has plenty on his hands without something like that, and would it work in Ripley as well as Pliny?

If it was done on-site my preference would be for a forum where each suggestion is made in a new conversation, perhaps with each conversation locked for replies?

I should clarify that - if it was done on-site by way of a forum rather than a button or a smiley...

A smiley - thepost feature would be good, because it would draw people's attention.

The Artists would have to draw people's attention. We don't want another demarkation dispute.
