The Who's Online you see in Ripley doesn't work, hasn't worked for a long time, can't be fixed.

The Who's Online in Pliny triggers for each signed in user when they view a page in Pliny. This means that it's kept up to date for users in Pliny.

yeah, a bit like what I thought I should suspect - which is why I used Pliny !

Don't worry about it though - it wasn't a complaint, just curiosity after post 59/60 (Prof & Lanza)

The Ripley one is broke because it triggers each time a user's page is viewed. Regardless of who views it.

So you can got to a load of user's pages and the who's online will then show them all as being online. There was reasoning behind making it work like that, but I don't think it was put in properly, and then things moved on.

The new one we've got in Pliny works much better, and the majority of viewers of the site use Pliny. Plus we're currently bringing the older skins over to the new framework smiley - smiley

A question

How long to researchers stay on the online list after their last page call.

Ten minutes.

We did a bit of tweaking/testing on the time given so that it allowed people to read a full thread, or a longer entry, or pop off to make a up of tea without appearing to have gone offline.

Thanks for the explanations smiley - ok

I had played around with the Who's Online a bit, and wondered how it worked - seeing that people who posted 1 minute ago weren't listed, and other people were. I also was once somewhat puzzled when I looked at it and I wasn't on the list, but it all makes more sense now smiley - ok
