Same here! Although today I reminded myself I *really* should use a tripod when using the old telephoto and 2x converter, especially when it's cold out there and my hands are shivering
Although I think I managed to keep it moderately stable: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pasteyh2g2/11448196533/
But the old lenses that don't have the digital auto-focus stuff in them really take thought and time, and a lot of shots, to get right

*clears throat*
If I might so bold as to do some self promotion, a tripod was exactly what I used to take this pic:

for my 'How to make a snow lantern' entry.

If your going to self promote, at least do it properly A2408492
Another fun Guide Entry! I just hope I never get a chance to try it around here. We are down to 44F this morning (7C) and that is way too cold for me. White stuff on the ground is only good in pictures

Wow, and here's poor old me trying to take shots of a cooking beef goulash without my lens steaming up!

isn't the tip from the professional food photographers to take photos of the food when it's cold?

It's a good picture and I think the steam in this case makes it look even better.

MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship. Posted Dec 19, 2013
Hoping I can attend and, if my girlfriend isn't travelling with me, I'm happy to travel with someone from London to Mancunia and back, by train which, as a 'carer' will entitle them to 1/3rd discount on the fare.
May help!

That's the same discount I can get on my railcard, too, MMF so we can/should be able to save two people 1/3 each between us (can that 1/3 discount also be off any discount from an advanced booking? I'm never normally organised enough to book in advance, so I've not a clue ) `
I'd have thought, though could be wrong, that with taking photos of food, especially with something like a stew, goulash, soup, anything of that* sort of kind of thing, that if you waited for it to cool, it'd not look quite* as good; you'd possibly tend to find bits of fat/oil flaoting to the surface, as it cools.... maybe

As long as you're not advertising the food itself, you can substitute things like motor oil for broth/gravy or white glue for milk. Acrylic "ice cubes" are sold for beverage shots as well as plastic bubbles for coffee and such.

even for advertising as far as I know. Ice cream in good professional photos (where it's not supposed to be melting for some reason) isn't ice cream.
I remember finding out that for photos of baked beans they open the tins, wash the sauce off, pick out only the unbroken ones, then paint the sauce back on using a paintbrush so it looks perfect...

In the US, there's a legal requirement for advertising. It's OK to "braise" a turkey with motor oil if you're advertising the oven, but not if you're advertising the turkey itself.

Them as what may be attending, what exactly would you want from Workshop A? Other than hungover blagging from the industry's number one chancer?

I remember reading Playboy (at my hairdresser's, of course) where they used coloured mashed potatoes instead of ice cream because the real scoops didn't last long enough under the photographer's hot lamps
