Well, I was one of the people who agitated for having it. Apples come up occasionally in conversation, so it's handy to have it. The doesn't fall very far from the

Don't spoil the image of Guillaume Tell putting a toffee apple on his son's head.
At least it wouldn't fall off.

To be honest, I didn't know there was an smiley. I still prefer the

Reminds me of the birthday card someone sent the rather shaggy Neil Gaiman:

Someone suggested that I read one of Gaiman's books -- "Good Omens." I enjoyed it. I wanted to see if it was similar to "The Infernals," another book that I liked. It turned out to be quite different. Mrs. Abernathy was a much nastier piece of work than Hastur and Crowley.

eMail from Lulu:
" " It has come to our attention that there has been an issue with your order [number] and as a result we cancelled it and refunded your payment.
After reviewing the issue we have determined that there is a problem with the author's files. We will contact the author of this problem, but the item can only be ordered again once the necessary changes have been made.
You can place a reorder for your book as soon as the project has been republished. If you have any questions let us know and we'll be happy to help.

Are they using Pliny, by any chance?

I'm sorry, this seems to be a general problem. Lulu sent me an email this evening that there is a problem with some file or other that I think was uploaded to my computer while creating the calendar.
I'm sorry to say this but at the moment it doesn't seem to work. I'm trying to sort it out as soon as possible, which will probably be tomorrow after work.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
