You are FAR from alone. Nelly and Justin Timberlake were sent to earth to punish teenagers for liking semi-good music.

Hey, do you think I should start compiling the researchers most disliked artiests in some way?
Or would that go against the happy feel of H2G2?

Actually I think that that would be a good idea and then compile a Worst Album list... Good Idea.

Anvil...
If you need any help with that I'd be more than happy to help you out...
You could askh2g2 to compile a list of most disliked bands/singers etc... that way you could then put the "data" into the Guide Entry...

I've been thinking..
Wouldn't it be better if instead of asking for a list of the ten worst tunes, we were to ask for the 3 worst artists, in no particular order. The reason being that no-one (or me at any rate) ever seems to remember, or know to begin with what their songs are. I couldn't remember, for example, any tunes by nelly. And having 3 choices may make choosing them easier

yeah... good idea... you could ask them to pick their top 3 least fave bands/singers/songs etc... and then when it's finished, put them into order etc...

My
What all of the bands in the Top 10 seem to have in common - with the interesting exception of the Pixies - is that they are all bands who have achieved a sort of critical mass and received so much international coverage that they become accepted into the canon of 'great' or 'big name' bands, which means most people will have heard of them, and come into contact with their music, whether they wanted to or not - which of course gives them a much wider appeal... to those that wait for their music to come to them rather than seek it out for themselves.
Nearly all of them combine this with the ability to inspire and retain a fiercely loyal fanbase... Queen, Pink Floyd, and Dire Straits, for example, were once huge and aren't considered 'cool' in the current musical environment (from what you read in the press and so on) and their fans are pigeonholed to a certain extent (a common one being "All Pink Floyd fans are spotty physics students"!) but a fan of any of them will defend their band's track record and reputation against the forces of so-called 'cool', almost to the point of pugnacity.
Personally, I feel many of the bands in the Top 10 aren't as good as their enormous reputations would suggest, but equally, they've all done a lot of good stuff, most people would be able to name a lot of their songs, and there isn't a band there who haven't written *something* that I like. Which if you add it all up is probably why they got on the list in the first place...
