In my opinion English is one of the easiest languages. I mean, we have 3 genders for all nouns and everything has to fit to everything else in gender and number... (ok, many things at least)

ah, yes
well, I still think some things are harder than others. But that depends mostly on interests and talent and so.

On the other hand, languages like spanish have far fewer exceptions and irregularities than English. On the other other hand, I don't speak any language goodly.

French is just awful, most people say that. I had it for four years at school and now remember hardly anything.

T.B. Falsename ACE: [stercus venio] I have learned from my mistakes, and feel I could repeat them exactly.

Yeah, it's the genders which always got me in German. I'm suprised they didn't try to get rid of them when they decides they were going to simplify the German language.

--Boring bit on languages--

Chinese is hard to learn because it's not really a language like the indo-european ones, it's more a verbal version of a syllabary. With meaning conveyed though inflextion and context, for instance 'death' and 'four' have the same syllable, but are said in a different way. Japanese, however, although partially derived from Chinese, especially in it's written form, is more a language as europeans would recognise with actual words, but while easier to learn than Chinese it is still difficult to learn as it's gramma is wildly different to indo-european languages. It's written form is also difficult to learn but for a diffarent reason, namely it's size and veriety, it contains 4 different types of charecter. In comparison English is easy for Europeans to learn.

They didn't simplyfie the language but the writing, that's a big difference. How would you explain to people that suddenly there are no genders anymore? I mean, in talking, we just do it, and people speak like that. It wouldn't work to get rid of them.

smiley - cool

Easy, you say "We're abolishing the gender system in German, from now on everything is neuter."...Only in German, obviously

>>I mean, in talking, we just do it, and people speak like that. It wouldn't work to get rid of them.

Yes it would, all you need is to have the language police walking round with big sticks smiley - smiley

Cal, I'm not trying to "attack" you.
You're alright.
Not meaning to participate in that bit either.
*shrug*
Guess it was just that the adjustment...
Different, you know?
I think that Lil kind of really helped to make the smiley - tea room as we have come to know it. That's just me though.
Or maybe it's because she had been the person who had introduced me to it, along with EC showing me what a MOTmv was.

Didn't help that the one of ya was depressed, and the other one was anxious/upset. But,- like I can talk.
smiley - tongueincheek
You know? It's rough sometimes. Things can be harsh.

Let's see.
Moving on...
