Actually, it depends on the program. AIM lets you choose your own avatar to represent you or even not use one at all.

Last year the British TV station BBC2 took the decision to show Jerry Springer The Opera one Saturday night. They received 47,000 complaints from Christians who said that the show mocked their religious beliefs and demanded that the show not be shown. BBC2 made the right decision and showed it anyway because those who could be offended by it could change the channel and come back later. There are millions of other threads on this site, and if people, like EC, were offended by our earlier antics then they could spend a little time in one of those other threads. We all know that after a little while this thread bounces back to it's insane antics and explosions. It's when people try to force the thread to do as they wish that we get occurrences like the current one.
