Happy Almost Birthday indeed! I was there... I sat and watched as Douglas explained the principles of the site... he was at some Science Museum or something and he was talking with that guy who did Newsnight, I think. My memory is a little patchy in that regard. I watched with interest and logged on to have a look. I don't think I actually joined until a few days (or maybe weeks) later and since then I've had far too many Guide Entries added and far too many Sub jobs go overdue (slap wrists). So, once again, Happy Almost Birthday one and all!
Happy Birthday!!!!

Happy birthday h2g2!!!
I remember seeing DNA on tomorrows world, and being so impressed joining h2g2 straight away. Then realising I had missed the point and written a terrible, trying to be Douglas, entry I went away again. But coming back a year or so later I now understood how this site could be the most remarkable site ever to come out of the great... (oh, nearly did it again) and so have enjoyed helping in it's creation ever since.
And if that made any sense to you, well done
Researcher PSG
p.s. Where are the nibbles?
p.p.s. Did I really just say nibbles?
Happy Birthday!!!!

"he was at some Science Museum or something"
It was the British Library, next to King's Cross station, and open to the public. You too can sit in the same spot Douglas sat in to launch h2g2.
I must dig out my tape of the broadcast.
