My sister is Vegan (does not eat any animal products at all), and I must say it is terribly hard to find anything other than salad to feed her with. Especially considering i am not in any way vegetarian. But I respect her dedication.

Your sister sounds like Mabel, the star of the restaurant review mentioned in the link above your posting, Princess Bride.
Not only Americans

Western Germans also understand sarcasm very well. I moved here from Poland some years ago. For the first years, I was as well understood as never before (which was surely because of using the wrong language). One day I went to a lecture which was normally well-attended, but this time no more than 10 students were there. I said to someone "Well, this here's going to become a real mass lecture isn't it?". I actually got the answer "No it is not, I don't know what you mean".

with regards to the american and the coriolis effect... as pointed out, inflection is key to sarcasm. If you have no inflection (or no smiley), then it's not sarcasm, it's just lieing. Sometimes the lie can be done for humorous effect, with the object of seeing how gullible someone is - but this isn't sarcasm - the joke isn't in what was said, but the stupidity of the person who said it.
I'm sure you *really* wanted to hear that...

Which, of course, is not sarcasm or lying.
It is a bit like a kid stamping his/her feet and shouting.

Well, if the only problem is a seat, I can give you mine and lets avoid ww3 for one more century. I`m not sure a new ww is such a good idea: mess up the flowers sometimes...
