Sarcasm is actually a very high form of wit. The lowest form of wit is grunting intelligently, but quoting comes as a very close second.

Perhaps repeating old catchphrases like "cat in a roomfull of rocking chairs," or " or "missed it by that much," or "on the tip of my tongue" happens to be running neck and neck with quoting quotations. We shall soon see.

I never feel cynical just realistic, though I suspect that's how all cynics describe themselves. I believe, in a way, cynicism is up-market sarcasm. It has a lot to do with a male-dominated media projecting an image of the perfect woman in all forms of media. It puts a lot of pressure on women to try to achieve that "perfect" ideal, because it is percieved to be the key to social accpetance.

Which does not explain why men's magazines, sometimes edited by women, are full of pictures of naked women while women's magazines, edited solely by women, have the 1st 10 pages full of ads for beauty aids and slimming programmes while the rest of the magazine is full of pictures of near-naked women
