There's an awfully good DVD of "Brazil" around somewhere. That's a good movie.
Yeah, why did they have to remake "Bedazzled"? Did anyone see the new one? Is it as terrible as I imagine? (Although the original has absolutely no appeal to modern US audiences, so that's why.)

It's actually *two* good movies on the three disk Criterion Edition DVD (third disk is docus and extras). The proper version, as cut by Terry Gilliam, the ending of which suggested that in the end there's absolutely no point struggling against the powers that be because they are guarding all the doors and they are holding all the keys and the only escape is insanity.
The other version, called the "Love Conquers All" version, was the one that the studio wanted to release. It's a completely butchered version of Gilliam's film with a happy ending, much, much worse than the schmaltz that was tacked on after the event to Blade Runner. It was so bad that Gilliam fought the studio to prevent them releasing it, and in an unprecedented event - won.
So. Irony. Gilliam almost single-handedly took on the overwhelming might of the studio which had financed his film and won - won the right to release *his* film the message of which is "There's no point fighting because the only possible victory is going to be in your mind, when your opponents control reality.".
Good call Tony.

How very troo, Pillowcase (I much prefer that to "Grief").
What we need is the gift of laughter. I don't know if you'll laugh, but this has raised a smile on the face of at least one member of the SBVM today, so for anyone reading this who's got a spare five minutes - go and get a piece of A4 paper and click the link.

Responses at the bottom of that entry rather than here, we don't want to drift too far off topic. What was the topic again?

Back to _Bedazled_ for a moment, what I found so interesting about that movie was the seeming statement that it's impossible to win so long as you don't know the rules and you can't know the rules because . . .
Wait, I'm having an epiphany here! (Don't worry, I clean up afterwards.) I'm running through all of Gilliam's movies. Internet Movie Data Base lists 14 and they all . . .
Okay! Where's the d*mn camera? Whadaya mean, "In your monitor"?
At least, show me where the broom closet is. Oh, there it.

Ben did such an excellent job of summarizing this elsewhere that I fear an imminent bout of redundant repetitious repetition about to happen, but I'll blunder on.
Lucinda (et. al.) was suspended for refusing to apologize for a statement made weeks ago that recently transmorgrified into an insult. Since the statement didn't change, the perception must have. The House Rules will need to be amended in order to cover statements that might (maybe) at some future time give offense, possibly.
Col. Sellers was suspended for not saying something nasty about an Italic, because he choose to illustrate what he was not saying by saying it. Off-site. The House Rules will need to be - apparently are being - revised to include researcher behavior throughout the known universe.
Not Banned Yet was suspended for being sarcastic. The House Rules will no doubt soon reflect the gross indecency of sarcasm, with satire and irony tossed in for good measure. (Hmmm... I myself might get in trouble for that one...) (Naw...)
HVL received an Official Warning for simulating a notorious posting deemed so offensive that it remains posted. (Perhaps it would have been safer to simply copy the original X'd-out post as reference. Oops - but that would have been 'a duplicate and already existing in another forum' , and still have gotten him in deep doodoovooloo as Barton can attest.) The House Rules will have something more specific to say about self-censoring soon, I 'spect.
Did I miss anything?

Given the ongoing problems caused by the original intelligence entry (now evolved into the intelligence project at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A584525 ) the people here might like to keep an eye on a creationist entry about evolution that has a similar potential for generating more heat than light over at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F48874?thread=150661 ps any cmments on the intelligence stuff is welcomed at the project.
