there's a place called Lyndon Diner.... decide what time to head over there - we'll meet you at motel to take you there, then we can caravan to Hershey from there....

Shea the Sarcastic Posted Jul 31, 2002
They can eat at the hotel if it's one of those continental breakfasts where all the food's just sitting out in the lobby ...

What about eating at the Inn? We could all meet there and head off to the park, have fun, meet later in the park at noon for lunch, etc.
Times...
tacsatduck- beware the <sheep> lie Posted Jul 31, 2002
well I don't think anyone was planning on getting to the park that much before noon were they?
Personaly a crazy wait staff makes a dinner or any restrant that much more fun

Sorry, simulpost. Where is the Lyndon Dinner in relation to the Inn?

I don't think the park even opens till like 10...
... and this waitress had some *real* problems... mostly relating to stepping on Clive's foot on every possible occasion.

I agree with Tac!
The best waitress I ever had dumped a tray full of "lighthouse" drinks in my lap at a Red Lobster restaurant. She was so busy apologizing that she completely forgot to bring me a towel, or a napkin, or anything to blot it up with! I was only wearing jeans, so it wasn't a big deal, but I started making a big deal out of it ... got a free meal ...

Reminds me of a New Year's Eve Party I was at a few years ago... my friend was hosting, bringing down about twenty cups full of ginger ale or whatever it was we were toasting with on a tray. She slipped and almost fell-- but miraculously nothing fell over on the tray.
Which was a good thing, as she tripped right over my head.

We were talking about on Saturday morning before heading to Hershey, weren't we?
Obviously, I know Shea and TJ won't be there for that....

Best dinner fiasco was at my girlfriend's prom where a waiter tripped and flipped her meal all over the table and everyone except me because I believe the waiter was bungling over my oddly-shaped head.

... reminds me of the time I had dinner with Clive and he spilled his drink on the woman at the next table ...
... reminds me of the time I was sitting in a pub with Clive and he spilled my drink all over the table ...
Anybody spot a trend here?

Yeah.. he didn't knock over a single drink the whole time.
Course, he never got drunk enough to do that, either.

Me, Myself, I, The Old Coot In My Closet, And The Incomparable Id [Call me "Id" for short.] Posted Jul 31, 2002
Okay, so ummm . . . *reads over the thread so far, gets confused* . . . so, ummm . . . have we actually decided anything? Dad is getting antsy. He likes to have things all planned and nice-like about a week before. I told him that it would never happen . . . but he's nevertheless starting to freak a bit.
I grok, so far, that the main issue is where/when to meet? Being confused, I shall ignore all previous posts (and you can't even yell at me for it......because I'm confused) and suggest thusly . . .
1) Out Of Town folks drive in at various times. (In Town folks, by virtue that they are in town, do not need to do this.) Some (such as my family and I think George and Alex) will be arriving Friday afternoon-ish. Out Of Town folks who are staying at the Park Inn check in, and become Park Inn folks.
2) Park Inn folks meet in the lobby of the Park Inn at (fill in appropriate time on Saturday morning here), in, of course, the most annoying spot to be blocking up that they can discover. This time should be chosen to allow folks who wish to eat at the hotel (has it even been confirmed that there *is* a Continental breakfast at the Park Inn?) to do so.
3) Park Inn folks reassure themselves of their companions' presence, state of existance, etc., i.e. make sure that everyone is there, and, when satisfied on these points, take off for the Lyndon Diner. (Is that anything like the Lyndonville Diner? Wait, wrong state, never mind . . .)
3) Park Inn folks and In Town folks and anyone else who wanders in all meet at the Lyndon Diner. Breakfast ensues.
4) The Great H2G2 Caravan forms, again checking that all persons, dogs, and bug-eyed monsters in attendance are present, and heads off to Hershey Park.
5) Everyone gets horribly lost on the way . . . what, that's not part of it? Oh, okay. Ahem. The Great H2G2 Caravan arrives at Hershey and the several carloads or so of total fruitcakes attack the park. Since I am completely confused as to who is arriving where at what point in time, it may also be necessary to decide on a convenient time/place to meet new arrivals after the Caravan reaches the park. I vaguely remember Chocolate World beind mentioned.
6) Dinner at the park? Sure, why not. The remainder (considering some folks may go off on their own) of the Caravan finally heads back to Lancaster. Park Inn folks retire to the Park Inn.
Now, here's where I get really confused. What's going on Sunday/Monday? Is Long's Park on Sunday? Or is that on Monday? *bangs head on desk in confusion* Speaking of Long's Park, what's planned for that? A picnic? Do folks need to bring stuff to the picnic? *bangs head again*
But that's the gist of it, right? Somebody tell me what's correct, incorrect, a good idea, or a stupid idea in the above babbling, so Dad will stop tearing out his hair. (He needs all the hair he can keep up there, so please, somebody, help!)
First person to say something constructive gets a made special just for them!

point #2: Yes, there is indeed a continental breakfast at the Park Inn. However, from what I understand, it's not much - bagels, cereal, that sort of thing. If you want a real breakfast (i.e., cholesterol laden), Lyndon Diner is good. We (the In Town Folks), can come bang on your doors or just meet at that annoying spot to block in the lobby at [insert appropriate time here], and from there we can all take off to Lyndon Diner, eat, then off to Hershey...
point #5: And yes, the last time I went to Hershey, I got lost, but only because I hadn't been there in years, and took the wrong exit (it actually says Hershey on the exit sign, remember that ) Then there was the other little moment as we were trying to leave Hershey, but that was because I'd taken a little side trip downtown to show Clive the kiss shaped street lights and well, the roads have been changed a bit since i worked there more than 20 years ago.
As far as where to meet the new arrivals... we should probably wait at Chocolate World near the entrance to the "tour ride" for the entire group to arrive so that we can all go on that together - unless some people think they'll be a lot later getting there (even though we don't have an ETA for the ones coming from Lancaster yet), then the rest of us can go ahead on the ride and meet them there later.. or something like that - I know Shea and TJ will be calling us on our cells when they arrive.... but then we can go through chocolate world again... or not.... Whatever suits everyone. (free sample at the end - why would you not want to go on it again?) There's also a 3-D interactive film at chocolate world... but they have the nerve to charge for that , so that will be optional.
Yes, Long's Park is on Sunday afternoon - say 1-ish? We can meet at the giant playground - the big wooden structure - can't miss it. Oh, and whoever is driving, be careful to follow the one way direction signs in the park - the police do patrol the park and will ticket anyone going the wrong way, as it's full of one way roads.
And, yes, please do bring food for the picnic... see the thead titled planning the picnic menu for ideas or to sign up for some specific items to bring.... and remember, Pa laws say no alcohol in public... not at Hershey park or grounds, not at Longs park... sorry, I know it flies in the face all that is hootoo, but that's the way it is here.
