The other issue with the 'Jack is the Face of Boe' is that Novice Hain says in New Earth that Jack/FoB is the last of his species. This might just be part of the legend and stories surrounding him, but it might also be true - just the idea of Jack starting a whole new species doesn't seem right.
As for why he was so mysterious - I think it's because the Doctor wouldn't want to be told the answer so simply - he'd want to figure it out, pain and all.

How long was it between the news report on Satelite (sp?) 5 and the hospital on New Earth? I got my time frames mixed up. Prolly cos I weren't paying attention!

Well the new earth one was a long time in the future.

"Are there no televisual treats to look forward to between now and Christmas?"
The Sarah Jane Adventures will probably start in the autumn. They've almost finished shooting, I believe. That'll be ten 30-minute episodes comprising five two-part stories.
And it's not Who, but BBC2 starts showing Heroes next week, and that's supposed to be very good. That'll run for quite a while, as there's 23 episodes. Assuming you haven't been watching it on Sci-Fi or the interweb.

Love a bit of kids telly!
Heroes is on the front of the Radio Times, I shall have a read of that in a bit.

Dunno about sat5, I think you mean platform one which was set in the year 5 billion and new Earth was the year 5 billion and 23

BBC3 are re running S3, I did see it over the weekend showing the Shakespere Code, cos' when I checked I said "Already??" to my mum
There was the Dr Who Marathon on UK Drama over the weekend, I recorded the Unearthly Child, the Chase, The Two Doctors and The Caves of Androzani, so I'm covered for a few days

"Heroes" very very much worth waiting for (and probably recording to rewatch later on...). I have just watched the whole series on Sci Fi and can't wait to watch it all again (with the benefit of hindsight) on BBC2!

heroes is OK but a seemed a bit too twisty turny for the sake of being twisty turny to my mind.
But its ok. My viewing of it was probably not ideal anyway cos I hate the way Sci-Fi and other cable channels show the each episode half a dozen times and overlap them. So by the time the next one comes round I've forgotten when it is on or miss it cos I think its one I have seen. Same goes for NCIS on FX.
