I keep checking the news outlets to see whether the Catherine Tate story is just a sick joke...no one has owned up yet...

feel a bit sorry for Catherine Tate: it5 must be rather horrid to see all this negativity when you haven't even started filming the bloody series!

Oops! There should be an 'I' at the beginning of that and the '5' is clearly interloping from somewhere strange and mathematical and therefore probably scary. I reckon it's best to just ignore the '5'.

Lets see:
Billie Piper: never remembered her pop career. Read she trained as an actress. Thought: give her a chance. She did very well (as Young Mr Grace would say).
Freeman Agyeman: Never watched Crossroads or Casualty. Thought: give her a chance. She did OK.
Catherine Tate: Only ever had to watch the trails for her comedy show. Knew she was a 'classically' trained actress. Thought: at least it's only a Xmas special comedy for the slightly drunk. She was just as I expected...loud brash and just oozing her characters(the writing didn;t do her any favours but maybe thats why they wrote it like that so she could act it. She had her chance and judging by the blanket shock from everyone then what can she expect?

....and so like every series of Dr Who since I can remember (Yetti in the tube station at midnight - almost a Jam song)we moan about the next new companion.
But we'll still watch it won't we kids ?

The episodes will have to be incredibly good for me to watch anything with Tate in.
Watch Dr Who and have to watch Tate.
Not watch Tate but miss Dr Who.
You know...tough choice..really...
Most of the time I have bene watching Dr Who because it's Dr Who I haven't gone out of my way to see it. In fact I missed one last series and wasn't bothered.

I feel like I'm a bit weird for having nothing against Catherine Tate. Her comedy programme is a bit hit and miss but the funny bits are *really* funny and the only time I've seen her playing it anything like straight was The Runaway Bride, where her character appeared to be written to suit her recognised style.
I suppose that someone that really can't stand her is going to find it a bit of a downer but I'm curious to see what they do with the character.

That seems to be nearly everyone then. I know of no person who likes what she has done.

Perhaps we need a straw poll here. Do you think Catherine Tate will be:
a) Fantastic
b) Good
c) Okay
d) Poor
e) Unwatchable
I'm wavering between b and c. I've not seen her do any straight acting apart from the Christmas special, but that was not bad.

I don't know, Baggy.
I find her comedy unwatchable, although I have friends who love her
I didn't dislike her in The Runaway Bride, but couldn't find myself warming to her either. I, personally, think it's a mistake bringing her back. If Freema is coming back part way through, why can't The Doctor be on his own for a bit?

I'm probably between b and c as well, with the proviso that it depends on the writers - if they can take the character on from where she was at the *end* of the Runaway Bride, and don't write her as if she's one of Tate's sketch show characters, it could be jolly good.
I still can't remember what 'straight drama' it was I saw her in.

Oh, hang on. The Bad Mothers Handbook! That was ok actually, bit depressing and written with the emotional range of a hormonal teenager but not awful. The light at the end of the tunnel might not be an oncoming train!

If it was, you'd be torn between a & e.
